Their relationship went something like this.
She was cute and happy. Everyone loved her.
"Risa-chan, you're a great friend. You're never sad or anything!" Miyuki laughed.
He was stoic and quiet. He didn't really talk to anyone.
"Jeez, Satoshi, why do you have to so antisocial? It wouldn't hurt if you joined us once and a while." Takeshi asked in his usual blunt manner.
She was also honest, and would pour her heart into anything or anyone.
"Dark, I...I love you."
Even a bucket full of holes.
"Sorry, Risa. I'm not even human. You can't fall in love with art. It will never love you back." Dark told her grimly.
She always got hurt.
Whenever her heart broke, she would go to him.
She would have walked for hours just to get to that doorstep.
The doorbell rang. Satoshi got up and answered it. "R-Risa? What are you doing here? You're soaking wet. What were you doing walking in the rain without an umbrella?"
He would let her in, they would talk or they wouldn't, and she would cry.
He would always get her something to eat.
She'd never eat it. She'd just stare down at the plate, tears still pouring from her eyes.
He would go to his bookshelves, which lined three of the walls in the room, pick out something, and sit at his favorite window alcove.
She would get up slowly, go over to him, and sit leaning on him.
She would cry, with choked sobs echoing in the motionless room and tears raining from her eyes.
He would look at her with sympathy, and stroke her hair, not making a sound.
She would curl up next to him, like a child, and cry herself to sleep.
When she was asleep, he would go and call her sister quietly.
Riku would come, full of smiles and condolences.
Just before the girls left, Satoshi would always ask Risa one question.
"Are you okay?"
She never had an answer.
But she always looked up at him like she had something to say.
The next day, she would be back to her normal self, smiling and normal. That wonderful smile.
He never told her how he felt.
He didn't need to.
He was happy just to see that smile.
That was enough for him.
