A/N: This is an answer to someone's complaint about the fic I wrote, Turned Down. This is why Edward acted the way he did in the other fic.

Turning Her Down

I was really thirsty. And I mean really thirsty. It was time to go hunting soon, but I could probably put it off. Besides, the Spring Dance was only a few days away, and I definitely didn't want to see that. People would be embarrassed enough by my sisters and brothers due to their dancing expertise. Besides, no-one had asked me, and it was the girl's choice. They were all probably intimidated. This was good. Because, let's face it, what human wants to dance with a vampire?

.:. :.: .:.

I was just getting to ready go to Science class after lunch when one person's thoughts in particular caught my attention. The thoughts were Jessica's and a furious debate was taking place in her head. It went along the lines of 'No, I'd be embarrassed, he'd say no.' 'But what if he didn't? Then I'd get to go to the dance with Edward. And he's the hottest of the hot!' I had to struggle to contain my laughter. As this continued, the negative voice (the one that said Jessica shouldn't ask me to the dance) slowly began to fade and become quieter, until the positive voice was all that was left. Jessica had made her decision, and did not appear to be going back on it.

In the classroom, I sat down beside the empty seat in the back as always. I decided to recheck on Jessica's mind.

"Okay, girl, you can do this. He's right over there. Just walk up to him and ask him. He won't bite you," (At that, I almost broke into hysterics.) "And he'll probably say yes. There's nothing to worry about." As she finished these thoughts, she began to cross the room towards me. "Omigod, he's so freakin' hot! I can barely look at him," she thought. I knew that if I opened my mouth at all she would probably die of humiliation because I'd be laughing. Finally, she reached my desk. "Um, Edward," she said. Then she and quite a bit of the rest of the class began to giggle. I simply rested my elbow on the desk, and my chin in my hand, tapping the fingers of my other hand on the desktop, and waited for the 'giggle fit', as Alice would call it, to finish. When it did, the whole class was thinking roughly the same thing: does Jess really think Edward's going to go with her to the Spring Dance? How arrogant can you get?

"Okay, um, EdwardwouldyouliketogototheSpringDancewithme?" Jessica rattled off.

Now, had it been a less funny situation, I would have said 'I'm sorry, but I'm going camping that weekend, and I can't accept your offer." But it wasn't a less funny situation. It was hilarious. I knew that if I uttered more than a few words, I'd laugh. I couldn't let that happen. So instead, I just said, "No, not particularly."

As Jessica took her seat at the front of the room, I couldn't help but hear her think, "Could he be any more blunt about it?" Well, yes. Yes I could.
