Gaara sat on the bench in the abandoned park. It had been years since he had visited this place, the place where other children his own age had spurned his advances and attempts at friendship. This park harbored ill memories. But what place in his hometown didn't arouse feelings of disgust, abandonment, loneliness or any of the other feelings he was too young to know. Nineteen. Today was his nineteenth birthday. He had returned to his birthplace on a whim and now it made him sick to his stomach. Ever since he had been discovered in a seedy bar when he was sixteen, he hadn't stepped foot on this soil. The red-head put his elbows on his knees, clasping his fingers together and resting his chin on them, closing his eyes as he got lost in thought. He was almost always surrounded by people now- people who wanted to make money off of him or people who claimed to love him that didn't even know him. Those people were worse than the greedy parasitic men who hovered around him like ghosts in a cemetary. He understood what the businessmen had to gain, but the fans were a complete mystery. They were awed by his one talent, and believed they knew him simply by listening to his music. It was ludicrous. "Hiya, mister." Gaara opened his eyes at the young voice he heard. Bright blue orbs were gazing into his own sea foam green eyes. "What do you want?" He asked the small blonde girl who simply smiled and sat on the bench by him. "You seem lonely. So, I'm going to be your friend." she concluded with a grin up at the man, who seemed like a giant to a six year old. "I'd rather you didn't." Gaara said, frowning uncomfortably at the adorable little.. thing beside him. Weren't children that small supposed to be with their parents? He wasn't sure due to his unusual upbringing. "But, you look like you wanna friend." The child said, looking up at him with suprisingly piercing eyes for a youth. Gaara simply looked at her in confusion. He didn't need a friend, and certainly didn't look like it. Did he? The girl stood up on the bench so that she was on eye level with her new friend. "Friends are good. See?" she said, hugging him around the neck. Gaara froze for a moment in pure shock, then slowly hugged the girl back with one arm. "I suppose so." he relented as they released one another. "Christina!" A girl's voice rang out and Gaara looked up to see a rather upset looking girl about his age run up to them. "I told you not to run away from me! Mom'll kill me if you got lost." The older girl said, giving her younger sister a stern look and putting her hands on her hips in a similiar fashion as the younger child had moments earlier. "I made a new friend, Krissie! Look." Christina said, looking at Gaara. Krissie blushed lightly but smiled. "Sorry if my sister bothered you." she said. Gaara paused. It might be nice to have a friend. Krissie had blue eyes like her sister but beautiful, long brown hair that went halfway down her back. It might not be that bad to have a friend after all. He gave a smile. "No problem. I'm Gaara."
