A young American man sat on his couch. One leg up close to him and the other extended out on the coffee table in front of him. He lazily clicks through the static on the TV. He turned his head to the window; the rain seemed to fall harder and harder. The thunder crashed; normally this would scare the young man but not today. He felt numb, he hardly showed emotion anymore. He sighed looking down at his phone. His wall paper was of his lover and a younger child about the age of 2. The lighting flashed and he barely moved. Only a moment later the thunder rattled the house as someone walked through the door. He looked up to see his brother and the child from the photo. The child was a sleep and his brother passed him off to him.
"Hey Alfred," The brother said setting the kid in his arms. "Adam should be asleep for a while; he had a long day..."
Alfred nodded "Thanks for taking him today, Matt. I need sometime alone to think"
Matthew sighed, "you have to tell him why Arthur isn't-," Alfred gave him a look. "I will, J-just give it time..."
Matt rubbed the back of his neck. "He asked about him all day and I couldn't tell him a thing"
Alfred's breath got caught in his throat and he looked down at the little ball of life in his arms. "I'll tell him tomorrow"
Matthew nodded and left the house, now Alfred was alone with the only thing that gave him happiness anymore. He sat back down on the couch with Adam still in his arms. He watched him sleep and how much he looked like Arthur, everything from the type of hair to the eyebrows. Alfred's diamond blue eyes started to fill with tears. This woke Adam and he reached up to touch his father's damp cheeks.
"Dada?" Adam asked sitting up in Alfred's arms. Alfred lent into Adams small hand, a faint smile showing on his lips.
"Yes Adam?" Alfred asked his voice watery. Adam laid his head on Alfred's chest, "Where's Mommy?"
Alfred took a deep breath, "When I was younger, I've give anything. To fall in love truly was all I could think. That's when I met your Mother, the man of my dreams." He smiled at Adam on how interested he looked. "When I first saw him he walked up to me, the most anger filled face you could think of, and said 'I can't help but notice you staring at me'. And we spent more and more time together after that. Soon I was falling in love with him and I'm a hundred present sure he felt the same," Adam wiped his dads cheeks and sat next to him, laying a head on his shoulder.
"I Soon asked him to marry me and he agreed, the happiest day in my life. My second favorite was the day we had you," he looked down and smiled at his son. "Now son I'm only telling you this because life can do terrible things…" he looked forward.
"Then this day last year," he gulped "he sat me down and said, "Alfred can I tell you a terrible thing? It seems that I'm sick. Please don't be sad now, I truly believe. You were the greatest thing that has ever happened to me." And fell into a deep sleep that he can never wake up from."
Alfred looked at Adam; he was a smart kid and understood what his father has told him. Adam stood up on the couch and hugged Alfred. "I'm still here dad and so is Uncle Matthew, So please don't be sad. We'll always be here for you," he squeezed Alfred.
A few minutes later Adam fell back asleep and Alfred carried him up the stairs to his room , tucking him in. after watching him for a few more minutes he made the long walk to his bedroom. He slipped off his tee shirt and sat on the bed, his head in his hands. Suddenly it felt as if arms were around his waist, he was startled at first but his face turned sad. He closed his eyes as a few tears ran down his face.
"Hi Arthur…"
