"Pickuppickuppickuppickup," muttered the Doctor, running her fingers through her hair. She bit on her lip and hopped from foot to foot, her ear pressed to the TARDIS phone.

The longer the phone rang, the more the Doctor's mouth formed a perfect frown. Finally, she slammed the receiver back in its place. She kept her hand on it, waited 12.4 seconds before picking it up again.

The phone rang and rang and rang.

Again the Doctor threw the phone back.

She drummed her fingers against her forehead with one hand while she thought, processing as much information as possible. Finally, she accepted defeat and started to pilot the TARDIS away.

River waited, rolling her eyes. She only had so many seconds before a guard would politely (ever so politely; she'd trained them well) ask her to return back to her cell after a nice night of escape. Her ear pressed to the phone, she blew back a stray curl from her face. With a long sigh, River held up a finger to the approaching guard to tell him just one minute.

The phone rang and rang and rang.

Her shoulders falling, River shrugged and hung up.

"Welcome back, Dr. Song."

"Yes yes. Welcome back."

She allowed the guard to escort her back to her cell. As he locked the door, she sat prettily on the bed, waiting for him to leave.

He turned to her once more just after the door locked with a soft click. He nodded slowly and, after a moment of pause, turned on his heel.

"Oh! I'm sorry; I completely forgot. Come here," she laughed, standing up and opening her bag.

The guard approached with a grin, extending a hand into her cell through the bars.

She rummaged in her bag for another moment before she turned triumphantly and placed a small cake into his palm.

"Thanks, Dr. Song," he smiled, popping the cake into his mouth and walking nonchalantly back to his post.

Smiling, River turned and sat on the bed again and began to take off her shoes.

River came with a shout, her head thrown back against the center of the TARDIS console and her hands entangled in the Doctor's hair. The Doctor grinned and pressed one more kiss to River's clit (making River twitch and sending small shivers up her spine) before releasing her hips. River smiled lazily before hauling the Doctor up to kiss her, tasting herself on her tongue.

The phone rang.

Both of them jumped.

The Doctor burst into giggles as River groaned, trying to will away the phone call. When the Doctor moved to answer it, River clung to her, her hands gripping her waist.

"Don't answer it," River suggested, although it sounded more like a command.

"It could be important."

"Yes it could."

Neither of them moved.

After a moment and a sigh, the Doctor leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss to River's forehead before separating from her. River stood up on shaky legs and went to look for her clothes before the Doctor grabbed her hand and started to pull her away.

"The phone's ringing," River reminded her.

"Yes it is."

"It could be important."

"Yes it could. So is this."

"... Is this why you never answer your phone?"

The Doctor laughed as she pulled River toward the bedroom.

The phone rang and rang and rang.
