The Yearly 365 Challenge
Prompt #313 (Quote) – When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."
"I got you Betty." Chic whispered as he held his baby sister tightly against his chest. "I got you." He repeated as her shakes just grew worse.
"P-polly." She whimpered as she tried to fight away from the body that was holding her.
Tears rolled down Chic's cheeks as he felt Betty's fear. He just held onto his sister that much longer. "I got you Betty." He repeated yet again. "I'm never letting you go ever again." He promised.
Betty broke free. She stared into her brother's eyes. "You can't promise me that Chic. You never could." Her knees rose up to her chest. Her arms wrapped around them tightly. "I need Polly." She whimpered as her chin rested on her knees.
Chic's head bowed in shame. When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on. Grandfather Cooper's calm voice whispered in his mind. His eyes closed as he pictured that ropes end. He saw himself slipping off of it. He watched as he quickly tied a knot on it and he hung on for dear life. He opened his eyes and met his sister's watery worried scared ones. "I'm never leaving you again baby sister. I promise." He breathed out.
A small sign of trust slowly entered Betty's eyes as she looked deep into her brother's soul.
