Regina was generally very certain about her life. She was organized, she always planned ahead, and she was always in control. This is what she thought anyway. So, if this were true, why wasn't Robin sitting across from her? This wasn't the first time he had forgotten about something, but the brunette was growing tired of the apology bouquets and the half-assed "I'm sorry," that was sure to follow. She should just get up and walk right out that door, and never look back. The waitress is making her rounds again, and stops at the table.
"Are you ready to order, honey?" Regina found herself wondering if the dark-haired waitress called everyone that, or called her that out of pity. She didn't want to know. Pushing back her chair, the brunette was about to leave, when there was a blur of blonde across from her.
"Sorry, I am so late, babe. The traffic was terrible coming out here. We'll have a glass of the house wine, right?" Regina could only nod in a muted shock. The waitress leaves, and the blonde offered an apologetic smile.
"Just go with it, okay? I don't know who stood you up, but they're a dick." She wasn't sure why she agreed, but Regina found herself nodding in agreement.
Two glasses of merlot were placed in front of them, and the blonde lifted hers in a toast. "To a wonderful night." Raising hers in turn, Regina regarded the stranger with an amused look. 'This should be interesting. Kathryn always said I should be spontaneous.' Taking the words of her friend to heart, she set the glass down. "What were you thinking of ordering, dear?"
Regina discovered over plates of chicken alfredo that she was glad that Robin had forgotten about their date tonight. She didn't know the blonde's name, or anything about her really, but she wanted to know more. There was something about the sparkling green eyes that drew her in, and she wanted to know more about this person. The hours passed, and soon they were the only ones left. Sheepish, they paid, well Emma paid, and they left. They lingered on the sidewalk, unwilling to say goodbye just yet.
Regina was contemplating asking if maybe they could text each other, when she felt a hand grab hers. Looking up it was just a split second before lips crashed on her own. She was surprised at first, but closing her chocolate eyes, Regina melted into the kiss. Breaking for much needed air, Emma offered a crooked grin.
"Sorry. I-I should have asked before kissing you like that, but I couldn't help myself." Regina shook her head to show it was okay, and tried to ignore what she really wanted to say. She wanted to say that she wanted to kiss even more, but she stayed silent.
"Regina, it's been great pretending to be on a date, but…"Emma trailed off momentarily. "...would you like to go on a real date this weekend? I know a great diner, and I really think you'd like it."
Nodding, Regina could feel the heat rising in her cheeks. "Yes, that sounds great." The brunette didn't know it then, but that simple yes, that evening of a mistaken date, would bring the greatest person into her life, and change everything she knew.
