A/N: This popped into my head after watching 5x04, if you haven't watched it I suggest you don't read it. :)

Elijah was in New Orleans when he heard the news about Bonnie, the witch community was saddened by the witches death, and so was he.

He headed straight for Mystic Falls, he had to say goodbye.

He made his way to the Bennett section of the cemetary, but couldn't find her grave. "I don't understand." he muttered aloud, as he looked for the young witches grave stone.

"There wasn't a proper funeral," Jeremy said, as he came to stand beside the original. "we had a small memorial for her in the woods, but that was it." Elijah nodded, before replying. "Would you take me there?"

Elijah stood in silence staring at the tree stump that still held the pom poms, feathers, white rose, grimoire and picture. "She's still here you know, I mean she can hear you and I can tell you what she's saying..." Jeremy said, unsure whether it would comfort or anger the vampire in front of him.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there when you needed me, Bonnie." Elijah whispered.

Bonnie appeared in front of Elijah and smiled sadly. "Tell him it isn't his fault, that he shouldn't feel guilty for my own decisions."

Each time she spoke Jeremy relaid the message.

"This wasn't supposed to happen, you were supposed to live your life, fall in love, have a family of your own. That chance has been ripped away from you... There has to be a way to fix this, there has to be."

"There isn't. Once you're dead that's it, it's over for me."

Elijah shook his head, "No! I will find a way, the witches in the quarter... They can do something."

Bonnie sighed and brushed her fingers over Elijah's cheek, she knew he wouldn't give this idea up easily. "Tell him he should leave now, Jer. Tell him to go back to where he was and forget all about me."

Jeremy gave Elijah the witches message, but he refused to leave. "No, I'm not ready to say goodbye yet." The original breathed, tears forming behind his eyes.

"She said it's time." Jeremy replied, Elijah sighed, closing his eyes trying desperately to hold back the tears. "Goodbye Bonnie Bennett, it was a pleasure knowing you... And I know I should have said this sooner but, I love you. I just needed you to know that."

Tears escaped Bonnie's eyes at Elijah's confession, she had loved him hopelessly since they first met, but never knew he felt the same.

"She said maybe in another life you both could have been happy together, and that she loves you too." Jeremy whispered, as he fought a losing battle with his own emotions.

"I hope to see you again one day, will you wait for me?" he asked the empty space in front of him.

"Always." Bonnie smiled through her tears, "Goodbye Elijah, my love."

Jeremy wiped the tears from his cheeks before speaking. "She's gone." Elijah's shoulders sagged slightly, before he turned to face the youngest Gilbert. "Thank you Jeremy, for giving me the chance to speak to her one last time."

"We all need closure." Jeremy replied, "Is there anything else you need Elijah?"

The original shook his head, before making his way away from the witches memorial. "Thank you but no, I'm afraid I must take my leave now. Goodbye Jeremy."

Before Jeremy could reply Elijah was gone.
