A/N: This is a response to muentiger's challenge on her story: Friends, Enemies and Newids. Read it before you read this, or the character of Lex, it won't make sense. Hee, that rhymed. This is the story of Alexandreiana Katerina Dracul, half-vampire and witch, before she was admitted into Hogwarts. Enjoy and review:

Lexi was wandering her around her house. Even by the age of 10 she was still amazed at the size of the castle and was awed by its beauty. She felt like a princess in a fairytale. But like most stories there are few happy lives.

Her life consisted of walking through these cold corridors without much warmth save for a few rooms where her mother's scent still lingered. She quickly panicked at the thought of her mother and willed herself to think of something else. It did no good to think of the past.

Yeah, the recent past she thought bitterly; turning away from the feelings she also turned around in the hallway. Vlad Dracul had nicknamed Lexi by her mother; she had a tall figure for such a young age, already nicely shaped, and she was not aware of her beauty just yet. Her hip length dark brown hair swirled down in perfect curls surrounding her face in a halo. She was considered an angel by strangers, but many in the town nearby feared her. Lexi was the daughter of Dracula, known to be a vampire.

Her family's "lair", as people referred to it, lay in Romania, coincidentally in Transylvania. It was rather far from the rumored home of Dracula and secluded from the rest of the world, quite unknown. At the moment Lexi lived with her father and her housekeeper, whom she considered as a slightly older sister. It had not always been this way, actually only until recently did Lexi live without a mother.

Lexi's mother, Rosalyn, had resembled Lexi greatly; she had also had a tall figure and her dark brown hair had swirled down in perfect curls. She had a personality everyone loved and she had seemed to be perfect in everything she ever did. An onlooker could say they were a happy family, always seen with smiles. That was, until the summer of Lexi's 10th birthday, merely 3 weeks ago. It was the worst birthday Lexi had ever had, as her mother's death had been 2 days before.

-Flashback-

"Rosalyn! Be careful when you go to the market!" Lexi's dad yelled out as her mother was heading towards the market. It was later than usual, nearing dusk, and Rosalyn was walking confidently, despite the dark of the sky. Ironically enough, the shortcut was through the forest, a place known to be the hideout of vagabonds and thieves.

"Don't worry I'll be fine!" she yelled back, waving happily. Lexi's dad was worried though, the night was eerily quiet, clearly foreshadowing a problem. But Rosalyn didn't believe in superstitions and launched herself into the forest laughing happily.

Lexi went to sleep early that night, excited for her upcoming birthday, where she'll finally have 2 digits in her age. It was out of a dreamless, deep sleep that the thunder woke Lexi from, there was storm rolling in and hearing the noise in her parent's room across the hall she could tell Rosalyn was not home yet.

-Flashback over-

That was the night Rosalyn had died, lost in the forest surrounded by gypsies, during a thunderstorm, merely 2 days before her daughter's birthday. They had found her the next morning, lying helpless, with all of her money and possessions stolen. She never bothered to take her wand on such small outings, her heart trusted everyone. This thought created a new cascade of tears and Lexi ran to her room. Grief racked through her as she fell onto her bed, not hiding the fact that she was hurting inside and did not want to move on.

A/N: How'd I do? Muentiger, please review!
