The Night's Stars
"Lily?" James's voice was gentle as she rested her head on his shoulder, his arm around her waist.
"Yeah?" She murmured tiredly.
"What do you want to do when we're out of Hogwarts?" His hand stroked her auburn hair.
"I was thinking about being a Healer." She closed her eyes, "What about you?"
"I don't know. As long as I'm with you." He smiled, "I was thinking about being an Auror but I only had one problem with that."
"What that's?" She looked awake now, and her emerald eyes surveyed him in curiosity.
"I was just afraid I'd get killed and I would leave you alone in the world." He said, gently kissing her forehead. He took his arm off her waist, and sprawled out on the ground. Lily settled down next to him, and they lied silently staring at the star filled night sky.
"Where you going to live after we leave?" Lily asked after a moment.
"I don't know." James rolled over so he could see her delicate face. "I can't stay with my parents forever."
"Maybe you could live with me. I have a nice two bedroom apartment that I'm going to me living in." Lily smiled.
"You'd let James Potter live with you, Miss Evans? Isn't that wrong?" James asked. Lily gave a slightly bitter laugh.
"What's wrong doesn't matter in this day and age, James. You should know that. There's no innocence- no purity- not with Voldemort rising. It doesn't matter anymore. I don't want to lose you, and I like the thought of you being so close. I need someone, James. My parents are gone and my sister refuses to talk to me. My best friend spends more time with your best friend- her boyfriend- these days and so she's never around. I just want you around." Lily looked at him pleading to him to understand.
"Yeah." James said after a moment. "Yeah. I know. With this Voldemort everything's gone to Hell. No one's safe anymore. It's not something I'd ever imagine I would live in."
"It'll be better someday, James. I know it will. I don't know how long it will be." Lily said softly, turning back to dark sky and the twinkle of starlight.
"Yeah." James said after a moment also rolling back over, "Yeah. It will. It's funny how night- the darkness- is the calmest part of the day. It's so. pure looking."
"Yes. The daylight is horrible these days. News of murder and fears of betrayal." Lily said softly.
"But it'll
be better someday." James said and then smiled. "Someday when we're married."
"And when we have a child." Lily grinned mischievously.
"A boy named Harry." James grinned.
"Harry James Potter." Lily said, fiddling with the engagement ring on her finger.
"It'll be wonderful." James murmured, pulling her into a hug, and then a kiss.
They lay in each other's arms, gazing at the stars in silence for a while.
"Lily?" James asked.
"Yes, James?"
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
A/N: Done. Fluffy-ish. Goes along with Sugar Cookies. Will go along with others as well - it's not specific for that reason, and you'll understand later.
J.K. Rowling owns both characters.
