Red Rose
I hold a red rose in my hand. It died long ago, but it is still the most beautiful thing I possess. The vibrant red has turned deep crimson, and the edges of each petal are tinged in a royal purple. Normally, a roses' petals become hard, and fragile when the rose dies; yet these petals are still as soft as ever. The fragrance that first left my senses spellbound is gone, and now I rely on my memory to remember the entrancing scent. Rather, the rose smells like him. As I hold the rose close to my heart, a tear slips down my cheek and lands in the center of the rose. As if bringing it back to life, it unbelievably seems to glow. I close my eyes and carefully remember every exact movement he made that night, every delicate word he said and how he said it. I trace his face with my mind and remember the emotion, the love, I saw in his dazzling blue eyes. If ever there was a doubt in my mind before that night, it was gone forever in that split second.
A rose, with so much more behind it. A gift, that also included his heart in one gesture.
A single red rose.
