Ozpin glanced up from his paperwork. In the center of a maelstrom of gears was a single ornate clock face. 'Only 11:55' he sighed. He automatically reached for his mug, only to peer at some mucky coffee grounds at the bottom.
Tick tick
The sound of the massive gears moving was as mesmerizing as it was subtle. Slowly Ozpins eyelids drooped, and he drifted off to the lullaby of machinery.
Ozpin sat staring across a rocky field. He could see Her sitting on a jutting piece of stone, enchanting in the moonlight. She wore a beautiful gown, her black hair like an ashen waterfall, and deep magenta eyes that still stared right through him. Her shoes made a hollow ringing sound as she tapped them against the rock.
"You know Oz, you could join me." Her voice was seductively husky, still as enticing as every other time. She motioned behind her to an ornate carriage with a team of massive, glossy horses.
Dong
As the noise echoed, the world seemed to ripple.
Dong
Suddenly the moonlight dimmed, as the great orb shattered overhead.
Dong
Noise filled the field as the rocks below became faces, all glaring at Ozpin accusingly. Their voices joined in a chorus-like wail of rage. The righteous accusations echoed to the heavens.
Dong
"You could achieve so much more with me, rather than against me." Her eyes now shined crimson, the gown now a dark combat suit with ominously glowing sections, a matching red. Her glass slippers tapped faster now, impatient at his indecisiveness.
Dong
"After all, Oz." She tapped her seat, now a black queen rather than a rock. "Every queen needs her king." She pointed at his seat, before hopping down and walking to the now altered carriage. The body appeared as a pumpkin sporting a feral grin. The horses were now giant black rats, their pale masks, and glowing eyes frozen in place.
Dong
Ozpin stared down at his own perch. A black king, it slid ever closer to the carriage. "No!" he yelled, a final act of defiance.
Dong
With a start Ozpin sat up in his chair. The door to his office was violently thrown open.
"Is everything alright sir?" A slightly alarmed professor Goodwitch inquired while looking around the room for the source of his shout.
Dong
"It's nothing; I was simply startled by the amount of papers I have yet to do." He replied as calmly as he could.
Dong
With a deep breath he stopped his hand shaking under the desk. "I could use some more coffee though."
Dong
"How much should I brew this time?" Glynda sounded slightly exasperated by his excuse.
Ozpin turned to stare out the window behind his desk, the faces still stared, waiting for him to fall asleep again.
Dong
"At least enough for one more all-nighter. You know how my paperwork gets; sleep has become something of a rarity in my position."
Glynda gave a curt nod before leaving.
Dong
'Midnight'.
