Scorpius/Louis

Author's Note: This is the prologue for future chapters. As in "Running through the Woods" the chapters will be relatively short and possibly not in a linear procession of time, but all the chapters will be connected. What comes when will depend on the plot bunnies. Thanks for reading.

First year had been one of big surprises. Albus Potter had been sorted into Slytherin, much to everyone's shock. Scorpius Malfoy had been placed in Ravenclaw. So had Rose Weasley, which was surprising only because the Weasley clan was almost invariably placed in Gryffindor. And Louis Weasley had been sorted into Gryffindor, which was not a surprising or noteworthy thing. But the surprises he would cause would come several years later.

Albus and Scorpius quickly became friends in their first year, mainly due to sharing a compartment on the train ride to Hogwarts. Albus hadn't been able to stand his brother's teasing and Scorpius had been alone, so it wasn't hard to join him. Plus, neither of them had known who the other was at the time and after they found out it didn't really matter to them. So the two stayed friends through first year, along with Rose because she had stuck around Albus to make certain that the youngest Malfoy didn't try anything.

Over the next few years everyone slowly got used to the friendship between Albus and Scorpius. Albus didn't play quidditch his second year as his father had and neither did Scorpius. Headlines were still made in the Daily Prophet because of that and their insipid questioning over the quidditch skills of Harry Potter's second son. Albus hated it but did nothing about it while Scorpius ignored the Prophet and Rose plotted revenge for that headline. It was Louis who was brave enough to stop her before she did anything she might regret later. After that he stuck around the trio much more.

During their third year Albus tried out for the team and became a chaser. He wasn't a spectacular flier, that was James' area of expertise, but he was good. Rose also made her team, as did Louis, but Scorpius flat out refused to try. When asked later he said that he wasn't interested in playing, especially since his family was practically forcing him to try out. His father and grandfather could not let go of their animosity toward the Weasleys and Potters and Scorpius refused to add fuel to that fire.

But things didn't start getting really interesting until fifth year. Scorpius became a Ravenclaw prefect and Louis became a Gryffindor prefect, but Rose and Albus were not picked for that honor. That had caused a bit of controversy when everyone found out, but those who knew Scorpius quickly came to his defense.

Of course, the most shocking controversy to arise was when Scorpius Malfoy and Louis Weasley were spotted kissing in the prefects' bathroom. As was the nature of such things, it did not take long for the entire school to learn about it.
