Z is for Zat
"I just would have thought zapping the guy three times might have done the job."
"Then you would be wrong, O'Neill."
"How so?"
"The armour of a Kull warrior is impervious to zat discharge."
"Right, so three zats…?"
"Would have been three more times you were not required to fire."
"Ah, gotcha."
"You know," Daniel toed off his shoes and plonked his feet on the ottoman, "I've always wondered why they didn't just send zats to Atlantis. I mean, surely that would have taken care of the wraith more efficiently than P90s?"
"Carter? Wanna take this?"
"Um, I don't know. I guess we never thought of it."
"It wasn't obvious?"
"No more than someone thinking to suggest it was."
"Point taken."
"Did anyone think to zat a Prior?"
Daniel raised his hand sheepishly. "Mitchell zatted me. Does that count?"
"You were a Prior at the time weren't you?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, aside from Daniel, was there another time we tried to zat a Prior?"
"Cameron shot one with an Ori weapon."
"Which wasn't a zat, Carter."
"Oh," Daniel waved his beer bottle in the air. "Mitchell shot one on the Sodan homeworld."
"Doesn't count!"
"Why?"
"He was under the influence of the anti-Prior device."
"Oh, so you've changed the rules? I was under the influence of the anti-Prior device, so I don't count either?"
"I thought we ruled you out earlier?"
"Right," Daniel conceded wryly, "because I was one of the good guys."
Jack winked. "So you insisted."
"Then, no. No one has turned a zat on a Prior who wasn't under the influence of the anti-Prior device."
"This sounds a lot like we're playing Stargate canon here."
"Like what?"
"Stargate canon!" Sam was met by a room full of blank stares. "Oh, come on, surely you know what that is. Daniel?"
"Nope, you've got me there."
"Okay, it's kinda like profiling, I guess. You take all the details collected from mission reports on a particular person or object and collate it into a type of working manual. Something people can turn to for future reference."
"What's wrong with reading a mission report?"
"You wouldn't even know what a mission report was, Jack," scoffed Daniel good-naturedly.
"Would too!"
"The point is having all the necessary information available in one place, constantly being updated when new details are discovered."
"Right, so somewhere at the SGC there is a… what did you call it?"
"Canon, sir,"
"There is a canon document on how many times we've used a zat on a Prior?"
"Well, no."
"Is there a point to this conversation?"
"Is there ever?"
