It has been seven years since Voldemort truly died. Life is starting to get back to normal. The Muggles are back to being ignorant of everything around them, while the wizards are back to making the world a better place. Yet once peace begins is usually when things become crazy again. Isn't it?
On a cool summer moonless night in Ballycumber, the mist is rolling in as a seventeen year old packs a bag. After swinging his bag over his shoulder he slinks down the stairs about to grab a broom by the door.
"Jacob?" call a sleepy little voice.
"Kit, what are you doing up?" The shaggy ginger whispers to the half-asleep seven year old.
"Thirsty." The messy ginger haired girl yawns. "Where are you going?" she looks at his blurry form in the dark.
"I have to do something. But I'll be back, I promise." Jacob whispers making sure no one else is up.
"Are you running away?" Kit pops awake seeing his bag. "P-"
"Dormire." Jacob whispers with a wand in hand.
Hit by the spell Kit falls asleep, Jacob catching her. He lays her on the couch placing a silver fox head necklace on the table next to her.
"Goodbye Kit." Jacob pecks her forehead.
Grabbing his broom, the young man looks back at the sleeping girl sadly before lifting up his hood. Fighting back his tears he takes off into the night.
Three years later there is a funeral for the never found young man. Kit cries in her room with the necklace dangling around her neck.
'Why Jacob? Why'd you leave?' She whimpers holding in old photo of them, her amber eyes blurred with tears still falling on to it.
It didn't take long for her to find out what happened during his time at Hogwarts. Hearing others whisper about the volts and Jacob's obsession of finding them. Many saying he went mad trying to find things that didn't exist.
It was then she made a decision. She was going to find them. She was going to prove her brother wasn't crazy and maybe. Just maybe. Find Jacob.
The next year Kit is off to get ready for Hogwarts. Traveling to Diagonally on with grandpa.
"Why don't you go get your wand sweetie? I have something to get." The sweet old man smiles down at the wavy haired girl.
"Okay papa." Kit responds a bit timidly heading off.
'Poor girl.' The amber eyed man sighs going in a different direction.
Coming to Weasley Wands, the shy girl finds what looks like two brothers arguing inside. The older one with golden locks having his arms crossed.
"Come on Loki, you got lucky last time. There's NO WAY you'll get it right again." The ice blue eyed boy huffs at the younger emerald green eyed one.
"It wasn't luck Thor." The short black haired boy shakes his head a bit.
"What did you get right?" Kit pipes shyly.
The two boys turning to the mouse like girl standing there. Her looking at her feet.
"Oh well you see, I predicted what type of wand Thor would get two years ago. And I told him I know what type I'll get; ten inch oak with unicorn hair center." Loki beams with delight.
"That's so cool." Kit looks interested, Loki flushing a bit at that.
"There's no way you'll-" Thor starts.
"Okay let's try this one; ten inch oak with unicorn hair center." A kinda crazy dressed woman comes back from the back with a wand in hand.
Loki takes a hold of it and a ribbon of light swirls around him. At which point he turns to his brother with a smirk.
"I give up." Thor throws his hands in the air exasperated. "Come on, mum and dad are waiting at the pet shop." He started heading out, not waiting for his little brother.
"Wait a…" Loki huffs grabbing his things racing after him.
'How'd he do that?' Kit wonders watching him go.
"Are you here for a wand?" Luna calls softly to the dazed girl.
"Y-yes." Kit turns quickly a bit red. "My name is Kit Soran."
"Soran ay? So your Jacob's little sister." The soft spoken woman turns to look for a wand.
"You remember him?" Kit looks a bit surprised.
"I do." Luna nods. "I heard what happened. That must have been hard for you, losing him after losing your parents in the war."
"I miss him." Kit grips the necklace lightly.
"You have a big heart, I'd have to say… this is your wand." Luna picks one with a vine like design at the bottom of it. "A pliable 12-inch acacia wand with a unicorn hair core." She smiles handing it to the girl.
Kit is hesitant but takes it. As she does a light dances around her making her smile at that.
"Thank you." Kit smiles at the fun looking woman.
"Go on and have an amazing year." Luna waves.
Kit waving as she heads off. A small skip to her step as she heads to the Leaky Caldron.
"Kit over here." Her grandpa waves by a seat in a corner.
"Papa, look what wand I got." Kit shows him happily.
"Hmm, a wand for a healer. That suits you perfectly." The old man looks it over with a small smile.
"Thanks." Kit giggles a bit placing it away again. "Oh, what errand did you have to run? Is everything okay?" she looks at him a bit worried.
"Well I guess it depends if you like your present." The old man moves a wholed box from the seat next to him to the table.
A little mew heard from the box. Gasping Kit pops the top to find an orange tabby kitten inside with a white ribbon around her neck.
"Oh papa, she's prefect. Thank you." Kit gently takes the creature out of the box nuzzling her to her cheek.
"Happy birthday Kit." He smiles warmly at his granddaughter.
Later that night in Kit's room, she stared out the window at the full moon. Holding the necklace she closed her eyes making a wish and a vow in her heart. The kitten mewing as it tries to jump up to the windowsill.
"Okay Peachy, time for bed." She giggles picking up the fuzz ball as she heads for the nearby bed.
Petting her new friend the girl drifts off, dreaming of what her life at Hogwarts will be like. A small smile on her face as she hugs the covers, Peachy snuggling close to her face.
The next morning they head for the train. Her grandpa hugging her before she gets on to the steam roller.
A few people whisper as they see her. Sighing Kit looks for an empty car, not really wanting to hear the gossip about her starting already.
"Excuses me, do you mind? Every other car is full." A pretty English girl stands in the doorway.
"No." Kit shakes her head a bit petting a napping Peachy.
"That's a cute kitten. And she matches your hair." The gold haired girl sits on the other side.
"I named her Peachy." Kit flushes a bit, not really sure what to say or do.
"That's really cute. I got an owl, his name is King." She chuckles a bit.
"That's a bit funny." Kit laughs.
"My name is Penny by the way. Penny Haywood. You?" The blue eyed girl holds her hand out for Kit's.
"Kit. Kit Soran." Kit shakes her hand.
"Soran? As in Jacob Soran?" Penny's eyes widen at that.
"Yes." Kit looks down sadly.
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean… it's just interesting to meet you. Not interesting weird or anything like that. Just interesting you know? Since he was like…not that I believe the stories! I mean…" Penny clarifies then starts to ramble.
"Penny. Penny I get it." Kit laughs, a bit out of the rambling but mostly relief in having a friend when she arrives.
"Sorry, I ramble when nervous or stressed or excited. Huh, I guess a ramble a lot." Penny ponders that.
"That's fine. I usually lose my voice at those times, so you can talk for me." Kit half jokes.
The two girls giggling at that.
A few hours later they hear a knock on the door. Looking to see a pretty yet tomboy looking girl in a Gryffindor uniform standing there.
"We'll be arriving soon, time to change into your robes." The brown haired slightly older girl instructs.
"Kay." The friends' pipe.
The ponytailed girl then heads off, most likely to make sure others are ready to go. Leaving the first-years to ponder what house they'd be in or if they'd be together.
Arriving the first years follow a giant older man to the boats. Walking through the halls Kit held her necklace, wondering how her brother felt walking in these same halls so long ago.
"Wait here, they'll be ready for you soon." The mountain looking man instructs heading inside himself.
Everyone chatters at that. Mostly about what house they want to be in. Many wanting Gryffindor or Slythiren for the famous four heroes.
Kit just held her necklace, her heart beating in her ears as she pictured her lost brother in his Ravenclaw uniform reaching out to her with a goofy grin on his face. Then she's brought out of her haze by the large doors opening.
"Welcome to Hogwarts first year students. I am your headmaster, Professor Minerva McGonagall." An older woman in a velvet green dress stands on a small stage where a stool and old witches had sit. "As you know there are four houses here; Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slythiren. While you are here your houses will be like your families. Doing well will earn you points. Any rule breaking and you will lose them. At the end of the year the house with the most points will win the house cup." She looks over all the bright eyes and curious faces.
"What house do you want?" Penny whispers to Kit.
"I'm not sure. Any house will be fine with me." Kit whispers, playing with her necklace nervously.
"Now when I call your name, the sorting hat will be placed on your head and you will sorted into your houses." McGonagall opens a long scroll. "Loki Asgard." She calls.
The boy from yesterday strolls up a bit nervously. But takes a breath as he sits.
"Hmm… interesting. Very interesting. Most be… Ravenclaw!" The hat announces, the house and others cheering as he heads over proudly.
"Merula Snyde!" McGonagall calls.
A scowling messy brown haired girl walks up. Before the hat can even touch her head the hat calls Slythiren, the girl smirks heading off.
"Rowan Khanna." McGonagall calls.
A coco skinned young man with thick glasses walks up. A mysterious air around him.
"Ravenclaw!" The hat calls.
Others clapping as the black haired dorky guy heads off to the table. Sitting next to Loki, the two seem to connect automatically.
Name after name is called. Kit playing with her necklace in a fidgety state.
"Kit Soran!" McGonagall calls.
At that the whole room falls silent. Gulping Kit heads for the chair, feeling more like she was on death row then about to be sorted into her house.
"Another Soran huh?" The hat whispers. "You're different. Yet similar. That curiosity. Yet these thoughts and feelings… hmm. Been a while since it's been this difficult to place someone." He ponders.
'Hufflepuff. Please. Please let me be with my friend.' Kit pleads in her head holding her necklace.
"Most be… Hufflepuff!" The hat call.
Kit felt her heart leap as she hears the cheers and heads for her table. Penny hugging her as Kit sits next to her friend.
"May the feast begin!" McGonagall call as the food appears.
'Why do I have a feeling things are going to get interesting again?' McGonagall sits eyeing the Hufflepuff girls curiously.
