Disclaimer: I don't own Fire Emblem
I sat on the bed and looked outside the window as Velour shifted around.
"Daddy, can you tell me a story?"
I looked at her and smiled. Reaching out my hand, I petted her head, running my fingers over that one stray streak of white amidst the grey. "Of course." I paused for a moment. What to tell her…?
I smiled as I thought of something. "You've heard the story of Little Red Riding Hood before."
"And…?" she asked, leaning forward.
I smiled. "My version has a little twist." I took a breath and closed my eyes. "Once there was a very, very lonely wolf. He wanted someone to talk to, but no one would approach him because of his appearance.
"One day, he saw this figure appear in the distance. It was a girl, about his age. She had red eyes and white hair. But most of all, she was wearing a red hood. The way she carried herself and everything about her made the wolf fall in love. But both of them knew that their fate was to never talk. He wanted to talk to her, feel her hair, give her flowers he picked. But, alas, they both knew that it wasn't supposed to be like that.
"Day after day, he waited for her. Even though she wanted him as well, she ignored him as she walked by each day. Many times, they prayed to those forces above to change their stances in life, but they still remained as the wolf and little red riding hood. He wanted to talk to her, embrace her, but he knew he never could.
"One day, she dropped an apple. He offered it to her, but his hand had claws that he was ashamed of. They hadn't been face-to-face since that day. But still, they saw each other each day, wanting to know each other. But they knew that no matter how much they cried and prayed, they would remain the same. So he merely waited on the other side of the tree for her, content to wait until her tears stopped. Always…"
Velour pouted. "But did they ever meet?"
"I don't know." I smiled to myself. "Maybe if you think about it, you might find the answer someday."
She smiled and settled back under the covers. "Goodnight, Daddy."
"Goodnight, Velour." I kissed her on the cheek and headed back to my bedroom. Kamui was sitting on the bed, her red eyes flickering as she read a book.
I sat on the bed and shifted over to the left side. "She's sleeping fine."
Kamui smiled. "Good." She set the book down and laid next to me. "Goodnight, dear."
I chuckled softly. "Goodnight, little red riding hood."
