The first time Kanda met Cross in the Black Order, he had already rubbed Kanda the wrong way.

He was fourteen, and Cross was already an insolent bastard General who demanded rich food and rich wine and complained about the lack of women in the Order. The complete opposite of Kanda, who stuck to his soba, his calm meditations, his trainings in the forest.

Cross picked on everyone, so it made sense that he also chose to pick on Kanda.

First, his technique. No style at all, Cross complained, as he believed that everything must be done in style, down to destroying the akuma.

Kanda tried to kill him, but the bastard was too fast to be killed.

Then, his hair. Surely you can go get a better cut, your hair is just one big thick mess.

He was rankled that Tiedoll had said the very same thing, and by god, he wanted to kill them both so much. Marie had convinced him that Tiedoll was not to be killed, so that left Cross to vent his anger on.

Then, his food. His clothes. His daily schedule. It pissed Kanda off to no end that he was the only one Cross was following so closely. Cross, apparently, took extreme joy in the fact that Kanda reacted to every bait like an enraged dog.

Then, Cross was given a long term mission, and he disappeared from the Order for four years, and there was nobody else that dared to pick on him.

When Kanda met Allen, he learnt that Allen was Cross's apprentice for four years, and he could not help feeling furious with him.

After the Ark and the whole mess of it, Kanda met Cross in the Black Order again.

Cross was exceedingly nonchalant, greeting Kanda with a lazy wave. Kanda couldn't even have the pleasure of pulling out Mugen to cut Cross's hand off, as the Scientists were still tinkering with it.

You really haven't changed much, eh, Cross remarked dryly as Kanda quietly seethed. Still the same hair, and the same temper.

Kanda growled and made to push past him, but Cross, damn him, blocked his way effectively.

But my oh my, you have achieved such style, Cross said, amused.

Kanda, unwillingly, was surprised by that remark. And just what, he growled, do you mean by that?

Oh, your battle with Skinn Bolic, of course, Cross quipped. Better than all your slash-and-kill moves, I must say. He pulled out a cigarette, lighting it up and taking a few puffs slowly, taking care to release the poisonous air in Kanda's direction.

Kanda could not find anything to say to that remark, other than to finally be able to push past Cross and storm down the hallway before the Head Nurse could catch up with him.

Cross only smirked, and continued down the corridor to get to his meeting.
