Konnichi-wa, minna-san. Ok.first things first:

I don't own RK, even though I wish I did. Not done for profit or anything. you know all this right? Sue me and all you'll get is a big angora rabbit. First fic, if its awful, tell me, demo, please don't flame. Also was written on the bus on the way back home. I think most of you know me as this person who reviews and never writes, ne? I think after minna-san reads this you all would prefer me to stick with reviewing. Heh.anyway.this is a K&K fic, set after Jinchuu. Italics are character's thoughts.

Yumemiru, Dreams

The sounds of her footfalls on the soft grass echoed listlessly in the misty air. A second set of footsteps, she heard. 'Kenshin?' "Kenshin, is that you?"

She then saw a tall man, with hair as white as snow, standing in front of her. "Kya..!" She started to scream as her world went black. The last thing she heard was the man laughing and saying, "He will be taken care of, and so will you."

Kaoru woke, drenched in sweat. She placed her hand on her chest and felt it racing. 'Again, this is the third time this week I've dreamt of this. Kya.I'm losing my mind." She sat up, 'I'll go and check on Kenshin. Just want to settle my mind and work things out."

She timidly padded to his room and slid open the shoji door. She saw Kenshin lying on his futon, with his hair let loose from it usual ponytail. Kaoru felt the familiar soaring sensation in her heart as she watched him sleep. She always felt this way whenever she saw him. She looked so, so.she couldn't describe. Innocent, childlike, so striking with his hair let down.

Kenshin didn't wake as she approached him, but instead seemed to be sleeping deeply, perhaps even dreaming. Kaoru remembered what she had said, about him dreaming of his past. Her heart ached when she had thought about how she had suffered, both physically and emotionally.

She knelt down beside his sleeping form and gently stroked his silky red hair. He stirred the slightest bit, and Kaoru saw tears running down his face, coupled with him softly mumbling something intelligible. He looked so vulnerable, so sad and so lonely, that she felt her heart being ripped apart. (A.N- Yeah, corny, I know. Sorry.I couldn't think of anything else.)

Kaoru sat down next to him and tenderly wiped his tears away. "Kenshin." she whispered his name. It held so much love and meaning to her, just his name. "Kenshin, are you dreaming? Of.Tomoe?" It hurt to say that. Tomoe was beautiful, kind, and more of a woman than she. 'Kenshin would prefer Tomoe over me, of course.' Kaoru thought. 'But that won't stop me from loving him.' She ran her hand over his scar, gently tracing it. Kenshin's tears stopped, all but for one, which coursed its way down his face and damped Kaoru's hand. "Kenshin, please don't cry..." she murmured as she continued stroking his face, "I'm here for you, and I love you.so please, don't be sad. It.it hurts me to see you cry like that."

She laid her head beside his chest, and gave herself to sleep. Kaoru felt comforted by Kenshin's slow, rhythmic breathing, and strong heartbeat. She slept so deeply, that she didn't hear Kenshin's confused oro, or hear him say her name lovingly. She did feel him wrap his arms around her, and draw her onto his futon. Her unconscious mind registered it as a dream, a dream that did come true.

Kenshin buried his face in Kaoru's hair, as she buried her face in his chest. With Kaoru, his hurt didn't seem so deep. The couple remained secure in their passionate embrace for the rest of the night.
