AN: I was having problems with this one. I'm still not happy with it, but I wanted to post something. It fought me all the way through - it just didn't want to be written. Prompt number nine - "marathon".
It had started as a friendly challenge. That was three hours ago. And they still hadn't given up. Sora and Roxas watched, as Axel and Kairi battled it out on a beat-em-up video game, neither prepared to admit defeat. They were, it seemed, evenly matched.
A while ago, Roxas had suggested that they bring this ridiculous marathon of a fight to an end, by calling it a draw. That would have been the sensible thing to do, but the two redheads weren't exactly known for being sensible.
"Don't be boring, Roxas."
"I can't stop now, I'm about to win this round." As it turned out, Axel was wrong. He'd turned his attention away from the screen for a few seconds, which was long enough for Kairi's character (a slender, purple-haired female ninja) to complete a devastating combination of moves and completely thrash him.
…………………
By 1am, five hours after they'd begun (they had needed to stop to order a pizza or four at one point), Sora and Roxas were fast asleep, using cushions as pillows, curled up as far away from the battling pair as possible. This was a very good idea, as it turned out – they'd resorted to dirty tactics, poking and pushing each other in an attempt to win.
Finally, Axel had had enough. Tossing the controller to the ground, he picked up the triumphant Kairi, carrying her into his bedroom and kicking the door shut behind them. He dropped her onto the bed, and pinned her wrists to the mattress.
"I win, Kairi."
She reached up, as though to kiss him, but changed her mind and smirked instead. "You wish, Axel. I'm not giving in that easily."
"You will," he promised her.
"Make me."
"Is that a challenge?"
"You bet it is."
AN: There was meant to be some more on the end of this, but this is the point at which my brain switched itself off and refused to cooperate. If it starts working again, and anyone's interested, I'll write the last bit.
