In England, the beaches were nothing to boast about.
The Black Order is situated in the far north, with chilly winds and rocky outcrops to define its landscape. Truly, nothing at all worth getting excited for.
But Lavi one day somehow succeeded in dragging Kanda out to see the North Sea.
It was a forever-bleakness there, crashing waves, dark skies, not a soul around them for miles. Kanda, cursing up a storm and attempting to pull his arm out of the death grip Lavi had on it. But not using Mugen, no, meaning that Lavi had the upper hand, and however temporarily and bizarrely, Kanda allowed him to hold the upper hand.
Perhaps it was his expression. There was something desperate in Lavi's eye, a fervour that, Kanda thought with distaste, matched the one of the brat's eyes when he is slashing through the akuma, dreaming of victory, scared of the end. Everybody was damaged by the Ark, by the Level Four attack, and perhaps Lavi needed a respite before they had to move again, wanderers when he thought he had escaped from that for one, going on two years now.
Here, he was quiet for once. Even Kanda was struck by the peace here, despite the raging sea. It was much like the forest he trained in, the knowledge that nature was far greater than any single human being. He didn't have to think, neither of them had to, they just needed to look out into the distance, quiet together, for a while.
And just breathe.
