I hesitated as Jin leaned forward toward me. When she was a few inches from my face, I put a hand on her shoulder and gently pushed her back.

"What ar-" she began.

I shook my head and smiled softly. "It's…complicated."

"Why?"

"Because– you don't know me!"

"I want to get to know you."

I shook my head again and began backing away. "I must go. Goodnight."

I turned and ran out of the courtyard.

When I arrived back at my small apartment, Uncle Iroh was up drinking tea.

"Ah. Zuko. How was your night?"

"It was…complicated." I headed into my room and shut the sliding door. Uncle frowned into his tea.

That night, when I was sure Uncle was asleep, I slipped out of our apartment, my blue mask in place. I walked quietly through the city, headed toward the forest.

When I reached the outskirts of the trees, I broke into a silent run, swerving in between the trees.

After running through the forest for some time, I slowed into a walk. Then I saw it… their camp. I hid behind a large bush, waiting for a sign.

Then, it happened. She rose from her bedroll slowly, checking that her companions were sleeping. She crept out of the camp carefully, trying not to awake the Earthbending girl.

Once she was out of the camp, she glanced around the camp before she too broke into a run. I followed her after a minute.

She stopped in a clearing next to a waterfall. She stood in the center of the clearing, her arms wrapped around her. She was looking around again, as though looking for something.

I stepped out of t he trees, unwrapping my mask as I went. She heard me behind her and spun around, but their was nothing but adoration in her eyes.

I continued to walk slowly toward her, my arms outstretched now. She caught the hint, for she ran into my embrace.

I held her slim form to me, just loving the feel of her in my arms. I kissed her hair and rested my chin atop her head. We stood there for a few minute before breaking apart and walking over to the edge of the water, our fingers laced.

She sank onto the bank, and I followed suit. I wrapped my arm around her waste again, pulling her close. She rested her head in the crook of my neck and sighed.

"How was your day?" she murmured. I chuckled. I raised my hand and brought it through her long hair.

"It was…complicated."

She sat up and looked at me, her eyes clouded with worry. I smiled and cupped her face with my hands. Pulling her closer to my face, I said, "Don't worry, I handled it." And I kissed her.
