I do not own Rebekah. All the other characters (unless I say otherwise) are my creations. This is purely fictional, so some things might be strange to those who know a lot about the viking age. I am basing this story on my knowledge of the viking age and other things mixed in with it.
A young Princess, Rebekah Svanhildr, of the age of only eighteen, was forced to reign over Víkingr without the help of anybody but her own intelligence and instinct. Rebekah was born in the year 798, in Odense which is in today's Denmark. She was born into the royal family of King Úlfr of the Kalmar Union. She was raised as a normal child while her older brother Fálki grew up to be the heir to the throne.
King Úlfr's plans for the kingdom changed drastically when on the 27st of January of the year 816, two weeks after Rebekah's eighteenth birthday, an assassin infiltrated into the palace and murdered the King and Queen. King Úlfr's brother, Egill, was responsible for the attack.
After the downfall of the King and Queen followed the downfall of the Kalmar Union. Starvation and sickness was spread across the entire land of the Kalmar Union, but the main problem was extreme poverty. To save her people, Rebekah sold all of her twenty palaces to donate money to everybody, and she cancelled all taxes. Because of this, Rebekah herself was going into poverty, and many cities understood that it would be safer to annex themselves to a kingdom with an actual King, leaving Rebekah with only three real cities to rule over: Elska - the city where Rebekah resides in her safehouse, Kveykva - the city that worships Rebekah as a Goddess, and Myrkr - the city of darkness and evil, where many assassins are sent to dispose of Rebekah for good.
Princess Rebekah had left her safehouse, her 'palace', so to speak, to visit the civilians in Elska. A young girl almost choked on air upon seeing the Princess outside the safehouse. "Rebekah" she breathed, as she ran her hands through her hair and smoothed down her clothes, a look of wish coming onto her face. Rebekah sighed in awe, Elska was so beautiful... If only it wasn't half dead. She noticed the young girl, and she could have sworn the girl had just whispered her name. She decided to address her. "I keep forgetting how beautiful this town is... If I didn't have to go into hiding constantly because of those troublesome Myrkr assassins and warriors, I would take much more time appreciating the beauty of this place."
The girl smiled at her. "It is a lovely town, your Highness, you keep it in great order," she said truthfully, bowing every so slightly.
"Oh none of that today," Rebekah said with a smile. "I'm trying to hide a little. I'm just Rebekah today, alright? No royalty."
The civilian smiled gracefully and nodded trying not to be awestruck. "Isn't hard to hide when you're royalty though?" she asked, her eyes shining a little bit.
"It's very difficult. Especially knowing that Myrkr will grab this opportunity, knowing I'm in town today and tomorrow, to have me murdered. I think I can cheat death once again, though." Rebekah suppressed a despaired sigh. She truly did wish she could do more for her people. The fact that some of them wanted her dead was heart-breaking to her.
