Let him Sleep
The sun painted the sky with hues of pink and gold as it slowly rose into the sky. The water, dull and lifeless in the twilight of the night previous, began to sparkle as the waves rippled at the shore. Bare feet were splashing through the waves toward the small mass underneath a palm tree. The nights were warm enough to warrant sleeping outside sometimes but so close to the shore? The lazy, hazy days of summer were upon them once again.
Feet covered in sand toes the shirt-clad back of the brunet who shied away from the touch.
"Mmmr, go away," he murmured.
Dainty hands went to the perpetrators hips before leaning down over the boy. Red hair fell over her face, almost hiding it entirely. However, it just couldn't hide the look of mock-annoyance on her face although she was smiling inside. Kairi knew that Sora would always act like this, especially during the summer. He looked like a child, curled up in the sand with his hands underneath his head. It must've been awhile since he'd last slept so comfortably. The three of them had talked for hours about what had happened and the Princess of Heart could just imagine the Keyblade Master having nightmares. But for now, he seemed at peace, tranquil in the notion of finally being home.
"Kairi, is he not awake yet?"
"No, Riku but look at him, doesn't he look so peaceful like this?" she asked the oldest of them. "I don't think we should wake him up just yet."
Riku reached Kairi just as Sora's eyes scrunched together. Whether to block out the sunlight shining directly on his face or to ignore the sudden intrusion on his sleep, the redhead couldn't tell. The other boy knelt down beside Sora shaking him gently only to receive a protesting whine. Riku and Kairi rolled their eyes as the Keyblade Master shifted, legs stretching out from their burrow.
"Go away…" Sora whined before his legs folded underneath him again, body shifting to maneuver his face away from golden rays.
"C'mon buddy, it's time to get up," Riku murmured. A smile twitched his lips upward as the head of brown spikes lifted up slightly. "Or at least move to someplace where you're not gonna get a sunburn."
The Keyblade Master sat up slowly, rubbing some of the sleep out of his eyes. Kairi giggled at the childlike motion of Sora as he rose to his feet. His shoes had been discarded hours before he'd found his way to the beach. It was too hot to sleep inside of his home and he preferred to nap on the beach. A yawn ripped from his mouth. He felt so tired today that a good day of rest was in order to restore him. Rising to his feet, Sora smiled at his two friends in a heartwarming manner before starting to walk toward a well shaded grove.
"I'm gonna go sleep in the shade then," Sora said before walking away slowly.
Riku laughed at his friend. Some things and friends just didn't change no matter how much time apart they spent.
"Should we go after him?" Kairi asked Riku before she plopped down in the sand beside him.
"Nah," Riku drawled out, "let him sleep. I think he's earned it."
