Just a little short something I wrote when I rewatched the first Jurassic Park movie and noticed this—I have that movie memorized, and I just now noticed that Alan points to himself when imprinting is mentioned in the hatching scene.

"I always like to be there when they hatch—imprinting, don't you know."
Upon hearing that, Alan quickly tapped his chest repeatedly, willing the freshly-hatched dinosaur to look his way. With everything that happened today, seeing a real live honest to goodness dinosaur, seeing multiple dinosaurs, that moved in herds, a T. Rex on the park—having a dinosaur imprint would be icing on the cake.
They were passing out gloves now, and he eagerly slipped a pair on and waited his turn to hold the baby dinosaur. As he waited, he examined the shell it was in as Ian voiced his concerns—how did they get this from an ostrich egg?
His mullings were cut off by the incubator arm taking the eggshell away from him. Ellie laughed a bit over it before handing the baby dinosaur over to her excited coworker.
Alan barely listened as he held the little dinosaur, gently cradling it and examining its frail limbs—sharp claws, tiny pointy teeth, large eye sockets….Definitely a carnivore….
He realized he recognized the body structure—and the tiny, crescent-shaped claws on the feet—
"What kind of dinosaur is this?" he asked Dr. Wu.
Wu glanced up. "That's a…Velociraptor."
Alan felt his blood run cold—the wonder and the glory of the day faded as what Wu said sank in. "You bred raptors?"
