Emily sat on her porch, a single tear rolled down her cheek as the HTC didn't look back as he walked away, battery fried and screen cracked. Emily felt her heart shatter as she remembered the good times
She always pushed his buttons, but he didn't mind, it brought them closer, though forward she slept with him on the first night, keeping him charged, while he fought back the darkness and the monsters.
It was a quiet day, Emily was bored, her phone had broke and she was promised a new one by her parents. She heard the car roll up the driveway. She jumped off her bed and fell over
"Ugh" She groaned as she picked herself up.
Kicking the shirt aside with a burst of rage; she ran to her door and threw it open; before bolting to the door and down the stairs, avoiding another fall from the sheer speed. She swung the front door open to see her dad, slight stubble on his chin, key in hand, obviously she beat him to the door, he looked at her with wide eyes.
"Someone was excited…" Her dad said with a smile.
Emily was literally bouncing up and down on the spot, it had been at least 2 days since she last held a phone and had to text all of her friends to confirm she wasn't dead and to cancel any funeral arrangements.
Her dad passed her a box, and she returned with a brief hug, "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!" she ran up the stairs again, and into her room, slamming the door she attacked the box like a wild animal, tearing it open.
She took a deep breath, and freed the phone from the polystyrene, she smiled at the small HTC that she held in her hand, and slowly removed the screen cover, and turning it on. With a happy bleep the phone loaded up, she lay back on her bed and smiled wider as she saw some basic apps already installed. She hopped on facebook and found she had a stack of messages from that one creep who spams her a lot.
Then she updated her status "New phone…" she said allowed as she typed, slowly "Give me your numbers! Xox"
She was amazed, and felt the phone vibrate on every keypress. It was so easy to type with, she remembered her last phone, that status would have read 'Mew ihone.. Guve mr yoir numbrrs! Oxo'
She looked at the HTC and smiled softly, pressing send before dropping the phone straight onto her face, it was hot from being held on her face, before it slid of onto her pillow. Her nose hurt, and she heard the phone bleep happily a few times as she got a few texts from friends. And then a tonne of spam from that creep again. She deleted that conversation, then looked for a way to block numbers, the phone was so smooth and responded to her touch.
They had a connection like no other.
That night the phone warned her his battery was low, Emily quickly found the remains of the cage that once trapped her beloved before she saved it and pryed out the charger from some sellotape, and plugged it into her wall and the phone, it seemed to smile, or was that just the spacebar. She held it in her hand and almost felt it hold her back, she tucked it under her covers and kissed its screen happily, before snuggling up to it in bed, she was still in her pjamas from this morning, and her hair was a mess, but the HTC didn't mind.
He didn't judge.
She browsed facebook, and talked to friends, and avoided that creep for the rest of the night, until around one, when she fell asleep, holding her phone close to her chest.
