Axis of Awesome- Four Chords
Prompt 1 - Journey - Don't Stop Believing
A/N: First time I heard this song (which is excellent, you should go look it up) after watching the anime, I couldn't help but link the two in my head and realize that an epic series of one shots was in here and so that's what I'm attempting to do with this.
Disclaimer: I don't own the song, I don't own the anime. Life goes on.
Elizabeth Liones was a good princess, not born for it like her eldest sister, Margaret, but not so opposed to it like her second sister, Veronica. Elizabeth understood, roughly, how things worked: Her father, the King, ruled justly and fairly; the Holy Knights protected her family and the realm. Elizabeth understood there were certain roles she was expected to fulfill as the youngest daughter of the king. She must be compassionate and king, she must serve her people in the kingdom. She was supposed to marry a member of the ruling class from a nearby country to strengthen her kingdom's borders and protect the people; which she would have been happy to do if it meant that Margaret was able to be with her beloved Gilthunder - should they ever patch up what nastiness was still troubling them . Veronica could continue on with her tomboyish ways, unaware of the way her guardian watched her with affection he would never speak of. Elizabeth would always do as instructed, including staying far away from the murderous Seven Deadly Sins.
Except things weren't working anymore. Her dear father had be captured and imprisoned by the same Holy Knights who had vowed to protect him. Margaret had shut herself away, refusing to talk and Veronica was still so enamored with her knight training she was in agreement with what the Holy Knights were doing to the people of Britannia.
Elizabeth could not accept this. The Knights were supposed to protect the people of the realm, protect the king and his family. They were not supposed to imprison the royal family or conscript the people as they were doing- without regard for their king's wishes or decrees set down.
Elizabeth figure that is she could no longer abide by the knights behavior, perhaps she could try to do something about fixing her kingdom. And if the Holy Knights were currently filling the role of the "Bad Guys," then maybe- just maybe- that meant the Seven Deadly Sins were the heroes the kingdom needed. The heroes from the stories her father had told her as a child growing up. And at the end of every story he would remind her of a truth she still held dear, "Don't stop believing in the heroes, Elizabeth. Don't ever stop, for as long as good and noble people such as you, my daughter, believe in them, they'll come back to save us at the time we need them most."
It was with these words from her dear father ringing in her heart that gave Elizabeth the courage she needed to steal the suit of armor from the hall and put it on. The courage she needed to sneak out the castle gates and begin her search for the Sins. Because she knew she would never stop believing until her kingdom was set to rights, with her family safe and her people were free. She would never stop believing in the heroes from the stories her father had told of their exploits. She believed in them, she needed them, and she knew she would find them. And they would save the day.
A/N: This is the first story I've written and posted in longer than I care to think about it. It's being written out of order, based on how the various 'prompts' jump out at me. I'm cross posting this to AO3 and haven't decided about my DA or Tumblr, but I write under the same name on all of them. Not sure when the next part(s) will be up but please let me know what you think.
