Chapter One: Message

It was just another Friday night, as dull as dirt, since the evil 'Nick' corporation took it off the Friday schedule. However, I was taken by surprise when my parents announced that they were taking my two sisters to the store with them, and I was to be left here alone. This was rather unusual, for they never allow me to stay at the house alone at night, even though I'm nearly thirteen. So, I bid them goodbye, and began to play one of my Zim tapes. I had randomly chosen an episode, and it was 'Megadoomer'.

Within a few short minutes, my fun had been broken. The television set was flickering, and the power went out. "Ughh..." I grumbled, "Stupid power outages." I peered out my window, and, curiously, saw that everyone's house around mine had perfectly functioning power. "Wha...?" I glanced around, and thought to myself, 'How very peculiar...so very peculiar..."

I paced for a while, trying to figure out what was going on. After all, it wasn't often that all your appliances to shut off like that...especially when the computer was still on! I felt compelled to log onto the Internet, but just before I got logged on, the chair I was sitting in fell backwards. That was the second time that had happened – in about SIX YEARS. I couldn't get up; it was as though I had been strapped to the chair by invisible restraints. "What's going on?! Is this some kind of prank my sisters are playing on me? If it is, they'll pay for it!"

Eventually, I was able to make it into an upright position. But with an upright position, a view came into sight that nearly made me fall out of the chair again. Two tall creatures, probably about six feet, though it was hard to tell, considering they were floating in the air, were right before me. They looked similar to squid, but dappled in the hues of a rainbow. A luminescence radiated from them, with one large eye looking me up and down. My mouth hung open. "Who are you?" I finally managed to utter.

"The clock stops at midnight, tomorrow," the first of them spoke.

"What is that supposed to mean?! I need to know for sure!"

"The clock stops at midnight...tomorrow...tomorrow...tomorrow...the clock stops..."

"Is there going to be something bad that's going to happen?!"

"Tomorrow..." With a bright flash of light, they were nowhere to be found, and I was once more alone next to the computer. Shortly, the lights flickered back on, and all was restored to normal. As I noticed the computer had logged me onto the Internet, I shook my head in disbelief.

"I need to get a second opinion on this one."
