A shame, a shame
This kingdom became
Ashes and dust
Were all that remained
Hopes and dreams gone
In the blink of an eye
Such a sad, sad fate
This kingdom beheld
The valiant protector
Says his goodbye
"Goodbye, my friend,
"'Till the next kingdom come."
What a shame, what a shame
This once vast kingdom became
For now ashes and dust
Were all that will ever remain
So... I watched the last two episodes of Merlin. And yeah, my reaction was typical. If by typical you mean, reduced to a shocked, unfeeling state that did not wear off literally a day after, and when said shock was over was overcome by a mixture of rage and disappointment and outright hostility towards my poor, innocent little stuffed toys that did not deserve the verbal (and to my shame, physical) outburst that took my brothers actually offering me a spoon of their ice cream to sweeten my rotten mood.
I mean, come on, BBC! WHY? WHY?
I just knew this series was going to break my heart. And it did. ( )
The ending sucked. Yet I knew, from the moment Merlin uttered the words 'Magic has no place in Camelot' (S05E05—The Disir), something of this sort would happen. Goddamit, Merlin!
So... the point of this poem was because I really think that the ending wasn't a bittersweet, happy ending thing. I think it was a depressing one. I think this series wasn't actually about Arthur or Merlin protecting Arthur. I think it was just about Merlin himself. (like, yeah, you didn't get that from the series' name? a sarcastic part of you says to me) Merlin's ultimate duty was to bring magic back to Albion, and Arthur's was to unite Albion, which he sort of did (making a truce with Odin and all). But Merlin didn't do his duty, he got, I dunno, confused, I guess (S05E05—The Disir). And, because both Arthur and Merlin's lives were entwined, something went wrong... And Arthur died as a consequence. And Merlin lived forever as a punishment.
And this is my take on what happened after Arthur fell, in poetry form.
That said, thank you for reading! Reviews are very appreciated! :)
