InuYasha Nekoto

After a long day at the street market, I begin my walk home. I was carrying two bags full of fresh vegetables and ingredients for bread. The sun flirts with the trees and paints the sky in pink, purple, and orange tones. The wind is gently toying with my hair as I walk.

I live alone. I moved out of my mother and father's home a month ago and got a job to pay for the house. I'm doing quite well on my own; my house is tidy and the garden is flourishing.

You open and close the door behind me. A sigh of content flows from my lips as you finally set the grocery bags down and kneel at the table. I light a candle and breathe deeply.

Suddenly, I hear the door open and close. An intruder? I arm myself with my best spatula and press myself to the wall next to the kitchen door. The door slowly opens; a young man with long white hair steps into the kitchen. Without another thought, I smack him with the spatula. He yells, startled and in slight pain. I soon realize it's only Inuyasha, the half demon.

Kneeling before him, I cried, "I am so sorry, InuYasha! I thought you were someone else!"

"Calm down, I'm not hurt," he mutters, pulling you up on your feet. I dare not look at him; I didn't want to see the large red mark I left on his cheek. "Besides, it's time to go. Leave the groceries-and just for safety, leave the spatula."

"Why this spontaneous trip?" I ask him.

"Just come along!" He practically drags me out into the sunset-lit evening.

The two of us walk to the lake nearby and sit on the shore, breathing in the sweet scent of clean water. By the time we arrived, the sun had completely disappeared and the full moon had begun to rise.

"So what did you drag me out here for?" I inquire.

"I just…wanted to…" InuYasha, for some reason, couldn't find his words.

"Come on, you can say what's on your mind. I do it all the time, you're overdue for a turn," I insist.

"…Alright. Keep your mouth shut until I ask you to speak," he orders. I pretend to lock my mouth and throw the invisible key over my shoulder. He continues, "I have something very important to tell you. It's hard for me to say, so be patient with me until I can get the words out. I…I kind of…You're the kind of person that I…want to…" He sighs in frustration.

Is he…trying to…

He takes a deep breath and closes his bright, golden eyes in an attempt to calm himself. Unable to resist the urge, I rub his ear for a few seconds. "Hands off, woman!" he yells, grabbing my hand. He lowers my hands and sighs again. His grip becomes gentle, sending my heartbeat sky-high. "I wanted to tell you that…when we first met, I couldn't stand you. You're so optimistic, so caring, and happy all the time. You were never crying or complaining. Later on, I realized something: I realized that you-" he swallows "-you were just what I needed. I know I'm angry a lot, and you're full of happiness….therefore…you're just what I need. You're my…other half."

I am stunned by his words. I struggle to even my breathing. "Well, say somethin', or all of this was done in vain!" he mutters.

"I…I'm speechless. I had no idea that we felt the same about each other," I whisper.

"…Really?" he stares at me, bewildered. "I may have never known…"

I slowly entwine my fingers together with his. "InuYasha…"

"Nekoto…"

Taking our time, InuYasha and I share a gentle, passionate kiss. The moonlight reflects on the lake's surface, adding a mystical glow to this perfect moment.
