The Zodiac Cat
Kiki awoke with a start and grinned. She jumped out of bed and ran into one of her houses many bedrooms. Empty. The smile dropped off her face.
"Mommy! Mommy!" The five year old cried, running into the kitchen. Her mother put down the frosting bag and wiped her hands on her apron. She turned around to face her little girl.
"Yes, hon?" she smiled at her daughter.
"Where's Kyo-kun and Tohru-san?" the little girl asked.
"They went on a walk while you were taking your nap. They'll be back soon. And that's Grandma and Grandpa to you," her mother replied. Kiki pouted.
"They went without me again?" she cried. Her mother ruffled her hair.
"They'll take you next time and don't forget. They need their alone time," she said. Kiki's frown turned back up into a smile and she asked,
"Tohru-san and Kyo-kun are always holding hands and hugging. Why?" She knew a story was coming. Her mother sat on the floor next to her.
"Well," she started, "There was once a time when those tow couldn't hug or make too much physical contact without something happening to Kyo-kun. It all began with the animals of the zodiac…"
Kyo and Tohru stood at the door, listening to their story being told to their granddaughter. A smile was spread across both of their faces. Kyo leaned down and whispered to Tohru.
"Why did you choose me?" he asked. Tohru looked up and her smile grew even bigger.
She replied,
"I always loved the Zodiac Cat."
