Resistance (In Memoriam)
Royai. Manga-verse. In sorrow we lose control.
She wasn't looking at his face, because she didn't want to see the shame, shining through his tears. But she didn't want to blame him, for crying. His best friend was dead, why wouldn't he cry? As much as Maes Hughes had annoyed them both, she missed him too. But not as much as he was going to miss him.
She took him home and boiled the kettle, because she knew that strong emotion drove him to do stupid things. It always had, and it always would.
Especially now.
But it was a surprise when the stupid thing did come. It came in the form of his hands, sliding around her waist; and she tensed at the touch. This wasn't like when she had been a teenage girl, behind her father's house. This was stronger, and it made her catch her breath.
He kissed her neck, gently, once, twice, three times. And then he gently turned her around to kiss her softly on the lips. The salty water of his tears slipped into their mouths with the touch, and, without thinking, without… measuring the situation… she kissed him back.
It wasn't reckless abandon that had started it. It was grief. And that thought was enough to make her stop.
"No," she said, "You're in mourning, no."
He didn't say anything, he just held her tightly, and they stared into each other's eyes for a moment; hers impassive, his full of his sorrow.
He kissed her one last time… and then broke away, leaving the room, and leaving Riza with the lingering taste of him on her lips.
I wanted to write something... and it ended up being something sad...
