It was at times like these he was at his most nervous. SG-1 was late for their routine check-in, nothing out of the ordinary, but it still bothered him. Perhaps it was because of all the unknown factors, or maybe it was because he had given the okay for the mission. It was probably both. He just knew that if anything happened to her he would not be able to take it. So much had gone unspoken between them but both knew the other like the back of their own hand, that included their feelings for one another. It was doubtful that everyone did not already know. Some say that love is blind, but when two people work together so closely and are involved in so many life or death situations, it becomes rather obvious to both parties. Which was why he was pacing the control room. If anything happened to her, he would not know what to do. She was so much a part of him that, at times, he was not sure where he ended and she began.

"Unscheduled off world activation, sir!"

He stopped pacing immediately.

"It's SG-1, sir."

"Open the iris."

His heart hammered in his chest and the pounding increased as unfriendly fire came through the gate. Several moments later, Teal'c appeared helping a limping Daniel Jackson through the gate. Several heartbeats later Carter came through. The wormhole promptly closed once they were through.

As he rushed down to meet them, an overwhelming sense of relief came over him. She was okay; she had come back alive and uninjured. As he greeted them, a small smile came from Carter. For the moment everything was okay despite Daniel's minor injury. For the moment he could breath easy knowing she was still there to anchor him.
