Above the skies of merry ole England, an elf was flying. But to the ordinary world, it would have looked like a thin, petite young woman flying on a jet pack. At best, it would have looked like a giant version of a fairy. But those guesses would have been wrong. Holly was the only female LEP elf, and darn proud of it.
She shivered with delight as she felt the cool breeze ruffling her hair, the beauty of merry old England (Foaly was actually right-for once.), and being just free! The chaotic workplace, Commander Root, Foaly, all gone! Holly smiled blissfully- until she remembered Commander Root's message before she left.
"Remember your mission." He had said. "This is no time for sightseeing." And he was of course, right. Holly wasn't here to tour Disney World (even though it was one of her favorite places.), go to Buckingham Palace, or even to meet the queen.
Holly was here to perform The Ritual. The Ritual. All she had to do was wait for a full moon and she was all set.
Holly flew for a few more miles looking for the perfect place until she found it. It. The absolutely positively perfect place. It was a bustling glen, filled with all the bustle and hustle Holly had come to expect in a forest.
She memorized the surroundings, noting that there was a big house, or more correctly mansion nearby. Note to self, Holly thought. Be careful of the Mud Men.
She peered about and then made a perfect landing on the soft and mossy ground. Holly then dived behind a bush and waited impatiently for the insert correct moon to come.
Holly knew that if Root hadn't found out that she wasn't as running hot as she had claimed, she would have been kicking some goblin butt right about now.
When Holly saw the glimmers of full moon, she stuck her head out and peered around, quickly searching for Mud Men. When she saw nothing, she buried the acorn in the ground and felt the burst of energy surround her.
She was just about to take off when she heard a tiny voice say, "Pretty fairy!" Holly whirled around, only to meet with a little blonde haired Mud Girl.
The Mud Girl was caked with dirt and grime and had apparently hidden in a pile of leaves, which was exactly the reason why Holly hadn't spotted her sooner.
Holly stood still, frozen to the spot.
It was when the Mud Girl started to shout, "Mommy, Mommy, there's a pretty fairy here!" that Holly dived for a nearby bush and hid. Only when she was sure that the coast was clear that she hesitantly peered out.
She saw no one there, but she looked in every possible hiding place that a term for humans could hide, just in case.
When she was absolutely sure that no one was there, Holly slowly took off, knowing that Commander Root would be furious that she had taken that long to perform such a simple task.
