Yay! My first story! So excited! I decided to make it a short one just to see how it would go. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out!

The Battle That Can't Be Won

I am the Titania.

I am the strongest female in Fairy Tail.

I cower away from no battle, and will do everything in my power to win.

"Erza! Fight me!"

I turned towards the familiar voice in time to see Natsu swing a fire engulfed fist at me. I quickly dodged, but was soon set upon by the dragonslayer again. He sent punch after punch at me, and I had to work harder to cleanly dodge them. He clipped my shoulder, but the pain was very little due to my armor.

I was aware of the crowd around us, cheering us on. The sound of their yelling and shouting. Their fists punching the air. It all seemed unimportant to me.

I caught a glimpse of Lucy standing off to the side. Her eyebrows were furrowed with worry, but her mouth formed a small smile, as if she accepted that this was inevitable.

I turned my attention back to the attacking fire mage. Although he hadn't hit me since, a grin was plastered to his face. I was suddenly filled with annoyance, and a great desire to end this quickly. I avoided his fist that was meant to hit my chest and swung my own. I drove my fist into his gut and sent him flying. He crashed into a table and broke it to splinters. Natsu lay there in the debris, slowly lifting himself to a sitting position. There were a few scratches on his arms and his stomach was beginning to bruise, but other than that he was fine.

The cheering grew around me. I noticed with some indifference that many laughed. How funny could it be that Natsu threw so many punches, while I threw one and won?

From the corner of my eye, I saw Lucy hurry to Natsu's side. She touched his arms tenderly while he mumbled he was fine. She sighed and smiled a little, and lifted his chin so he would look at her.

Despite the roaring of voices around me, her soft murmur reached my ears, "Don't worry. You may have lost, but you're still a winner to me."

My stomach churned at the sight of their loving gazes, and I dropped my gaze and proceeded to leave the guild when they came together for a kiss.

But when it comes to Lucy's heart… that is one battle I can't win.
