Before and After Don

If you would have met Danny before Don, you would have met a very different person. You would have met somebody who was angry at the world, somebody who was bitter, resentful, and a downright bastard. You would have met somebody who didn't believe in relationships, commitment and all that shit that came with them, you would have met a cheating bastard who took pleasure in nameless and meaningless sex, you would have meet somebody who hid himself behind a mask of cockiness and smart-assed comments, you would have met somebody who didn't trust or believe in people and had little faith in humanity and it's future. But most of all you would have met somebody that had no trust, love, or faith in himself; you would have met somebody who was ready to jump from that slippery edge that he had stood upon throughout his life.

But after he met Don, he changed. It had not been easy and it had not been instantaneous, and only God knew why Don had even tried it, because he sure as hell didn't. But Danny was glad he had, because with Don he had learned a lot. With Don he had learned that yes, life wasn't perfect. In fact, she was a bitch that took pleasure in kicking you in your teeth when you were down, but that at the same time it could be the most wonderful thing, if you open yourself to it. He had learned that some people just wanted to be your friend and that they expected nothing from you other than your friendship. He also learned to let his guard down; to live for himself and not for what other people expected of him. He learn to let go of the past; to forgive, to share, to laugh, to joke, but most importantly he had learn to love. And, as he lay on his bed next to his snoring partner, he realized that for some time now, he had stepped away from that edge, and life goes on and so would he with Don at his side. For the first time ever Danny wasn't afraid of living.
