Donkey Kong eyed the pile, looking from Diddy Kong to Lanky Kong, who, too, were glaring at each other. Across from him, Tiny and Funky Kong had their sight set on the banana bunch that laid in front of them.
Fact is, it wasn't much of a bunch, since there was only one banana.
DK looked from monkey to orangatange to chimp to ape, making sure none of them make a jump for it, making sure he was the one who got it. Strangly, that was what was on their minds, too. No one moved a muscle, a hairy arm. Their frows narrowed, they moved slightly. Their eyes widened, and they jumped. They all grabbed the lone fruit, tugging on it with all their might. As if by pure, dumb luck, it slipped out of their hands, rising into the air. The five started running around, flailing their hands in the sky, trying to catch the spinning banana.
The piece of food stayed in the air for so long, it was practically floating. Time moved as slow as a turtle for the mamals as they watched it come down to the sandy beach. The Kongs reached out to grab it, but just before it touched their hands, Sqawks flew down and grabbed the banana in his claws!
"Hey!" Donkey called, giving chase. The Kongs followed, muttering some choice words. They ran after the bird all over the island: up to the top, across the surrounding ocean, inside. As the Kongs grew tired, Sqawks landed on the roof of Cranky's workshop. Cranky, as if on cue, came outside. Sqawks flew down on his shoulder. Cranky took the banana from him.
"Just what do you think you scally wags think your doing?" Crank asked, pointing the banana accusingly at him. Everyone hesitated, "Do I have to repeat myself!?" Everyone winced at his voice.
"Er, uh..." Diddy started, "We were just, uh... tryin' to... get the last banana?" He said the last part rather quickly. Cranky opened his mouth to speak, but Lanky cut him off.
"But, when we were trying to get it from each other, we decided to stop." He said. Cranky opened his mouth again, but Funky interrupted.
"But when we were about to stop, Sqawks came and took the banana from us!" He said. Cranky opened his mouth again, but Tiny stopped him from speaking.
"We gave chase, trying to get the banana to put it back in the pile, but Sqawks kept flying away from us!" She said.
"That's because I made him do it!" a voice yelled. Everyone turned, except Cranky, who was already facing that way, to look at who called out. Dixie Kong walked up from behind a tree.
"Dixie!?" Donkey yelled, "But... WHY!?"
"Because that's what you all were talking about for the last day or two!" Dixie said, "You kept on talking about having the last banana for yourselves! It was driving me insane! I made Sqawks take the last banana because I wanted you all to suffer!! BWA HA HA HA!"
"But... Why would Sqawks want to make us suffer!?" Lanky shouted. Everyone looked a Sqawks. He just shrugged.
"Everyone?" Cranky said, but his voice was downed out.
"How could you Dixie!?" Diddy asked, "How could you!?" He stated sobbing.
"I was just sick of it, alright?!" Dixie shouted back.
"Heelllllloooooo?" Cranky continued to get everyone's attention, but failed.
"I would've won if Sqawks never took the banana!" Funky said to Lanky.
"Nu-uh!" Lanky countered, "My long arms would've grabbed it before the rest of you!"
"Pssh. Yeh right."
"Anyone?" Cranky asked.
"I want that banana... I want that banana..." Donkey chanted as he entered the feetal position.
"Donkey?" Tiny asked, "You okay?"
"I want that banana..."
"HEEEEEEEEY!" Cranky yelled, getting everyone's attention (and scaring Sqawka off of his shoulder). Everyone stared at him. He cleared his throat and continued, "We have another pile on the back of the jungle." Everyone's jaw dropped. After a slight hesitation, everyone dashed for the other side of the jungle.
