It had been a few months since Antauri's death. Since then, Chiro had been found, and returned to his original state. But he was withdrawn, and the four monkeys who remained heard him crying himself to sleep every night. He seemed to have lost his motivation, and desire he had to be a hero. One night, Chiro lay in bed, thinking.
I wish Antauri were here, Chiro thought. He was like my father… he gave me the strength to fight, the will to live and be a hero… why did he have to go? Chiro cried. He didn't deserve to die. He deserved to live! I should have died! Im far less important to the team then Antauri was! He held them together! Chiro began sobbing harder than ever. Then, as if by some strange force, he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up, but no one was there. Yet he still felt the sensation.
Chiro.
Antauri, it can't be you.
Don't think about me Chiro.
How can I not?
You must not dwell on memories. Look to the future, which is what matters.
I miss you.
I know, but I am in the past. The team needs you.
That's not true.
Yes it is. They need you more than ever.
No they don't.
Stop crying Chiro. I know you hurt, I see it within you. It will be hard, but please, be strong within yourself.
Chiro sobbed, but as he did, he heard someone singing, a voice from far away.
I know you hurt deep inside,
But memories hold only pain
I know you can't forget me
No matter how hard you try
But within you I see strength
And hope you hold
You know I'm always with you
Even if you can't see me
I'm there by your side
I will show you the way
You are a hero no matter what
There's nothing else to say
Don't forget what I taught you
It will guide you when you feel there is no hope
Don't forget
Always remember who you are
And you will find the light.
Chiro felt suddenly better, like warmth had washed over him. He sat up, rubbing his eyes.
It was dream, he thought sadly. But a dream I will not forget.
He got up, and for the first time in months, went out of the room with hope in his heart. The black monkey might be gone, but his legacy and his words remained within Chiro.
There was always light in the darkness.
