This is a parody of the Trolley Song scene at the end of Act I of Meet Me In St Louis. We do not own rights to Meet Me In St Louis characters.

Narrator: It is a brisk early fall day in 1903. The trolley is pulling to a stop not far from the entrance of the Smith family house.

Rose: Esther come on! The trolley is waiting,

(Esther emerges from inside the house.)

Esther: Have you seen John come yet?

Rose: No. He hasn't come outside. Didn't he say he had a baseball game?

Esther: Yes, but he said he'd be back by now.

Motorman: Time tide or trolley waits for no man.

(Rose gets on the trolley and Esther reluctantly follows her and goes to find a seat in the corner.)

Esther: (anxiously) I can't believe he's not here. He said he'd be here! (To motorman) Don't leave yet… we're still waiting for someone.

Motorman: Sorry m'am. If he's not here that means he's not coming.

(Esther leans back in her seat.. clearly annoyed that John has not shown up.)

Older woman: Wow! What a view!

Random young woman: It's such a lovely day for a trolley ride!

(Ensemble starts to sing The Trolley Song in the background)

(John runs from off stage right to catch the trolley.)

Random young man 1: Hey motorman, stop the trolley!

Random young girl 2: Yeah, can't you see someone is trying to get on?

(The trolley slows down and John gets on as Esther sings her solo)

Random boy 1: Hey ya Johnny, you made it.

John: Yeah, my game just ended. We won 5-1.

Rose looks at him with disdain.

Rose: Do you realize Esther thought you weren't coming?

John (somewhat embarrassed): Yeah, sorry I literally just came from the ball field. Where is she?"

Rose: This trolley is filled to the brim. I'm sure you'll find her.

(Ensemble continues to sing The Trolley Song in the background as John frantically looks for Esther.)

(A few minutes later Esther finds John)

Esther: (slightly annoyed) A bit fashionably late aren't we?

John: Yeah, sorry, my game literally just ended.

Motorman: Where are we headed?

Esther (shocked he doesn't know) The fairgrounds for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition please.

Motorman: Right away m'am.

( Fade out…. One half of ensemble is singing the Trolley Song and the other half is singing Meet Me In St Louis)
