Changing Occupations and Confetti

Disclaimer: don't own BLEACH, the all mighty Tite Kubo does.

Summary: Toshiro wants to quit his job.

A/N: This is a fic I wrote at an anime convention(which was awesome btw!). We had to choose a situation and an item, mine are the title of my story. The party reference is in another story that I might put up, but only if people want it.

A few weeks after Rangiku's party, Toshiro finds himself hiding in his office with the door locked, wondering how to rid himself of the on coming nuisance that was his Assistant Captain. He could possibly complain to Yamamoto about his newest problem, but that was most likely not going to work.

After many hours of sitting, thinking, an accidentally shredding his paper work, he came up with an idea. He could stop being a Soul Reaper.

After a few more minutes of thinking, that was all he could come up with. 'So it's decided," he thought. 'I will stop being a Soul Reaper.'

Just as he came to this conclusion, a knock sounded at his door.

"Who is it?" he asked irritably; upset that someone had disturbed his thinking.

"It's Hanataro – who else would it be?" Rangiku's voice echoed on the other side of the door.

"Sorry, come in," he replied, sighing inwardly.

"I can't, the door's locked!" she exclaimed, an amused tone in her voice.

"Oh yeah," he said to himself. "Hang on."

Toshiro got out of his chair and crossed the room to unlatch the door, his white cloak flapping behind him.

Rangiku burst through the door as soon as said latch was flipped.

"Ummm… Captain," she began, eying the shredded papers surrounding the desk that had once been the piles of paper work. "What happened in here? Where you attacked by a freakin' cat or something?"

Toshiro looked at the mess surrounding his work area.

"Ummm…" how could he explain this? "No, it was a fox." Yeah, that was lame.

"Right…" Ragiku said, sweat dropping.

"Anyways," he would break the news to her first. "Matsumoto, I'm thinking of changing occupations…"

"What?" she asked, raising one eyebrow.

"I don't want to be a Soul Reaper anymore," he answered simply.

"So what are you going to do, make confetti? You seem to be pretty good at that!" She said with a laugh.

"Sure why not," he said, his tone mild and bored.

"Oh my god… you're serious about this aren't you!?" Matsumoto exclaimed.

"Yes, I am." Toshiro bent over and began to try to pick up all the pieces of paper.

"Then who's gonna be Captain?"

"You, or they'll get someone else," his reply slightly muffled.

"You can't just leave!" She was shocked. This was so sudden! Or was it? Now that she thought about it, her Captain had been acting really strange lately; like locking the doors to almost every room he went into. He had been a little jumpy and was easily aggravated. He had even yelled at Hinamori the other day. That was it!

"What about Momo? What's she gonna do when she finds out your leaving?" Matsumoto smiled inwardly as Toshiro froze. Momo Hinamori was his major weak spot.

He looked up at her. "Damn you," he said clearly.

"Love you too, 'Shiro-chan'." She said with a smirk. Problem sovled.
