For the Silence Challenge on the Review Lounge Too forum and I think this fits with some PFC challenges. Need to check that one out...

Silver was perfectly capable with speaking. He just chose not to whenever a Rocket grunt passed by.

He hated them, and they knew that. And it gotten to the point where speaking just wasn't worth it. They never bothered to take note of it anyways. No matter what, they'd go on spouting about how their plans will work.

And Silver always wanted to yell at them. Correcting their use of "will" to "won't". Because it won't happen. If he couldn't stop them, Gold would. And for once, Silver trusted Gold to do something.

And perhaps that's why he wanted to escape this cave. Too noisy. And not the normal Pokemon cries - he was fine with that. But the smug laughter of those grunts...it was just too ugly.

Perhaps if he had yelled at them to shut up, they would shut up. The grunts were too gullible and scared. Something Silver picked up from stalking Gold everywhere - in front of authorities, they showed no fear. In front of one or two ten-year-olds, they freaked out and followed whatever they said. Really, it was a useful skill. If only it worked for a long amount of time.

Still, it wasn't worth it. And neither was staying in this cave. Being a mute in these circumstances was hard. And while it was worth it, it was a hard to earn feeling. One that he was pretty sure would all shatter once a Rocket grunt passed by. And that would be all too disappointing.

Releasing his Crobat - which SIlver finally got to evolve after a good half year - he flew out of the cave. He thought about giving a grunt to the cave as mockery to all those grunts hanging out there, but that'll give them too much. His silence was all they needed. And all they deserved.
