Mikasa was a very shy child.
Even when she lived in Japan, she never liked to talk to others. She only had a few friends.
And now, she lived in a new country. Her family walked down the street, and she held her mother's hand anxiously. They were supposed to be meeting up with a new family. Mikasa's parents said that they had a son, who was her age.
Mikasa had been having a hard time making friends. She didn't know much English yet. She only really knew her native language, Japanese.
The family soon came to a park, and they stopped by the lake, taking a seat at the benches overlooking the body of water. Mikasa stared at the ducks in the pond, tentatively walking towards the water, bit by bit.
About 10 minutes passed when another family walked up. A woman with dark hair and bright brown eyes walked up with her husband and son.
"Doctor Jaeger!" Mikasa's father greeted rather loudly, taking Mikasa's attention away from the ducks and towards the family in front of them.
"Hello Mr and Mrs Ackerman! Have we kept you waiting for too long?" The man asked, shaking her dad's hand.
"No, not at all, we only got here a few minutes ago" Mikasa's mom spoke.
Mikasa came and stood behind her mom's legs, grasping onto her skirt tightly. She stared at the boy standing next to Carla's legs.
"Oh, this is Eren" Carla introduced her son. Eren looked up from the ground. He had dark brown hair like his mother, and bright green eyes.
"This is Mikasa" Akane looked down at her own daughter. "I'm sorry, I'm afraid she doesn't speak English very well".
Mikasa squeaked and hid further behind her mothers' legs when she heard her say her name. However, she couldn't really tell what they were saying. She only knew a little bit of English.
Mikasa looked at the boy - Eren they said his name was - a little bit more. He wore plain jeans and a t-shirt, with a light jacket draped over his shoulders, and a red scarf wrapped around his neck. He looked friendly enough.
"Eren, why don't you say hi?" Carla suggested, pushing Eren forward slightly. Mikasa was nervous at first as the boy walked towards her. He reached out his hand kindly.
"I'm Eren" he said. Mikasa looked up. Eren was staring at her. She felt a light blush reach her cheeks as she shook his hand back.
"Konnichiwa, watashi wa Mikasa-chan" Mikasa said quietly. Akane looked down at the kids and crouched down.
"She said; 'Hi, my name is Mikasa" Akane said quietly, squeezing her daughter's hand. "I'm afraid she doesn't speak much English yet".
Eren nodded. "Mikasa….that's a pretty name" A slight blush reached Mikasa's cheeks. "Wanna go play at the park?" Eren asked, pointing in the direction of the playground to clarify. Mikasa nodded and followed him.
After the kids were far enough away, the 4 adults let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank God they got along" Carla whispered.
"Yeah...Mikasa needs friends, but she's so shy, she refuses to talk to anyone" Herrick replied.
"Well, all we can do now is hope they get along and become friends" Grisha said, and the four parents relaxed a bit.
Over on the playground, Eren sat with Mikasa on the swings.
"How long have you lived here?" Eren asked.
"Two weeks" Mikasa replied quietly.
"Do you like it here?" Eren asked.
Mikasa nodded quietly. "Yes...it's very pretty here"
"How much English do you know?" Eren asked.
"Not that much…" Mikasa admitted, looking down at her lap once again.
"We could go to the library and get some books sometime...my friend Armin and I could teach you English" Eren suggested. Mikasa nodded.
"I'd like that" she whispered.
