Disclaimer : I own my own story. :3
This is happened pre-Frontier. The time where Kouichi still in kindergarten, age around four that time. The title mean "For Mama", refers to Kouichi decision to smile for his mother's sake thus, the time where he started to bottle up his feelings. Comment, critique and flames are welcome. I could use the flame to burn the cake. Also thank you for RyoRyo to help me in this drabble~ ^~^ -
It's just normal for a child to ask for their parents whereabouts, especially when one of them had been absent for far too long. That was what the four year old Kouichi was about to do, ask his mom or granny about his father, once he get home. He will make sure that what one of the kids in kindergarten said about his father was wrong! His father hadn't abandoned them, he just went abroad and can't get home since he has work, too much work to do.
'Was it?'
The doubt slipped into his mind as soon as he got into the apartment and stopped right at the doorway. His big navy blue eyes spotted his mom at the dining room table sitting alone and he could hear a soft sob come from her. His mother is crying. Again. This wasn't the first time he had caught her crying and when he asked, she always answered with the same 'It's nothing dear'.
Why does she always cry?
Where was his father?
Wasn't it his father's job to soothe mom when she's crying?
If he was really went abroad to work, why did his mother still need to work?
Why was he never around when either of them needed him? Too many questions in Kouichi's mind but no answer come to answer it all. Nothing but one. The one that made the four year old's face turn into horror. One that the kid had said to him.
"Your father has abandoned you!"
The words echoed in his mind. He wanted to deny it, Kouichi wanted to believe that his father is just at work just like his granny said. But yet, no matter how much he denied it, what the kid said started to make sense, no, it actually made sense. It explained all the pain that he always saw on his mom's face whenever he asked about his father.
He was gone and will never come back.
He abandoned us.
Kouichi's small hand gripped hard at his pants, head hung down as he bit his lip. 'How dare he just go like that? Doesn't he know that mom is hurt?' he snapped in his mind and almost burst out from the room if he hadn't heard his mother's soft voice.
"Kou-chan," The tone that she had indicated that she hadn't paid attention at all and just now realized that her son had been home. "How long have you been there?" She asked, worried replaced her tone from before, worried that her son might have caught her crying.
Kouichi could see it, the dried tears on his mother's cheek but she was smiling now. It was forced, he could feel that, somehow. It was the same smile that she always showed him, a smile that told the others to not worried. If his mother was making a smile so he won't get worried, he could do that also. For his mother's sake.
"Just now." He lied and shook his head. As the answer was given, his mother let out a slight sigh of relief and a smile formed on her face, a brighter one. If his mother had been enduring the pain for him, he might as well do the same. He will smile and be a good boy for her, he will also let the question slip for now and let it wait for another time to be answered without asking his mother. Maybe one day he could find the answer by himself so that he won't make her worried over his question. With smile he said, "I'm home." as he closed the door and hugged his mother.
