"Koooorraaaa! Are you here?"

Korra, who had been filling out a report to Tenzin back in Republic City, hopped up eagerly. "I'm in here Bolin. Please tell me you've come to save me fro- MAKO! What happened?"

Bolin had emerged in the doorway half supporting his brother who looked worse for wear. Korra ran quickly over, dove under his other shoulder, and helped Bolin walk him to a chair.

Once he was seated she directed Bolin to get her fresh water and then began examining Mako's injury's.

He had a nasty bruise under his eye that was sure to turn black before two long and a cut on his cheek. When she had him take off his shirt-ignoring the blush that rose in her cheeks- she discovered that his chest and stomach were covered in bruises and when she pocked his ribs he winched and cursed like they were broken.

Mako avoided eye contact while she did this and when she asked him who did it to him he didn't reply.

By then, Bolin had returned with the water and began to fill in Korra on what had happened.

"Well, we were walking by Karth and he was bragging as usual to a couple of his stupid friends like always and then he said something about how he should have been the avatar instead of you and that was about the time that Mako went off on him."

"Mako! How many times have I told you that I can fight my own battles?" Korra sighed as she began to start to heal his face.

His eyes snapped up "What was I suppose to do? Let him insult you in front of me? I'm your boyfriend its my job to protect you."

"Sit still." Korra snapped and then continued "Listen, Karth has been saying that kind of stuff since we were kids! It doesn't bother me and I could care less what he thinks."

Mako grumbled something that sounded like "even a girl?" which earned him a very sharp glare from Korra. For once he was glad he was hurt because he knew if he wasn't that the glare would have very well been a slap and Korra slapped hard.

"Anyway," Continued Bolin "Mako walked up to him and began giving them what for and Karth goes 'Oh you would say that seeing as your shacking up with her every chance you get'-"Korra rolled her eyes and Mako sighed " -which didn't help his case at all. So Mako grabbed his shirt and was about to punch him or something when all these huge dudes popped out of no where and beat the crap out of him! I couldn't even get close to help and when they were done with him they tossed him me and said 'There, a present for the avatar' and laughed and walked away."

Korra, who had done all the healing she could by that point, sighed and told Mako to stand up.

"Well, I can see why you would want to beat him up but I think you came out the worse in this deal. Your rips are cracked and I can't heal them myself so let's go to Master Katara's and have her heal them. Bolin can you go give her some warning?"

"Sure thing! Can you make it over there by yourself?"

Korra waved him on "I've got this."

"Alright," Bolin said and left.

Mako stood slowly and was surprised when Korra wrapped her arms around his neck in a gentle hug.

"Thanks for defending my honor and stuff, but I would rather you be in one peace and my honor be tarnished than the other way around." She said

Mako wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her hair. "I know, but I hate it when people say stuff like that about you. They have no idea what kind of stuff you have been though. Your the best avatar for the job right now and nobody has the right to say anything against that."

Korra reached up on her tippy toes and kissed on his unbruised cheek. "Thanks City Boy but lets get you to Katara before Bolin starts to believe what those guys said about us."

Mako groaned and rolled his eyes "Not funny Korra, not funny."
