It was unseasonably hot for September. While citizens were used to the last, lazy remnants of summer lingering, London had never experienced a September this warm. With thermometers topping 45 degrees Celsius, Londoners were feeling the heat. Stress levels were high. Tempers flared and nerves were worn thin. The Guardian and The Times were at a loss as to the reason for such an unusual heat wave. Some blamed global warming while others predicted the end of the world. Suffice to say, something was rotten in London town.
