I do not own these characters. This is fic one in the Holiday Suck line. Enjoy.
Since X-23 had come to the mansion she had dine her best to act as human as possible. At times this had meant going to her knew found friends for crash courses in etiquette, after all humanity was beaten out of her. Though her friends were helpful it always managed to spark a fight. She had no doubt that the question she was about to ask would have the same effect. Entering the rec. room she steeled herself for what was to come.
"Hi X. What's up?" Kitty asked the new girl.
She hesitated. "Kitty… I need some guidance."
"What do you like need?" Kitty queried.
"Umm…what is father's day?" The clone muttered.
"I'm sorry what was that? I couldn't here you." Kitty said leaning closer to the young girl.
X gulped. "What is father's day?"
"Oh," Kitty began. It figured that the girl would ask a question like that. She had grown up in a horrible environment and now that she had a home it she had begun to look to Logan as a father. "Father's Day is when you celebrate your dad. You get him a gift or you do something nice for them."
X was glad to have some idea of what the holiday was, but now she had other problems. "What kind of gift can you get a father?"
"Well anything. I got my dad a tie to wear to work, but there are other things as well." Kitty told the other girl.
"Just do what I did for my dad X." Rogue began putting down a magazine. "Get him a card."
Kitty looked confusedly at her friend. "Rogue I thought you hated Magneto."
Rogue answered. "I do hate him. The card just says 'Get Bent.'." She then began reading her magazine again.
Wanda who wasn't sitting too faraway had come to visit her sister. "Hey Rogue would you mind signing my name to that card too?"
Without looking up from her magazine Rogue answered, "Already did."
Kitty looked unsurprised and looked at X. "Well that's better that the card she gat him last month for his birthday. It said 'Die'." Then turning back to Rogue she said, "Gee Rogue what are you going to get him for Christmas, a tombstone?"
Rogue looked at Kitty in exasperation. "Thanks for running the surprise Kitty."
Jean put in her two cents then. "Don't listen to her X. I got my dad a coffee mug that says World's Greatest Dad."
Bobby made a rude noise at this. "Oh yeah that's original. After my dad disowned me for being a mutant all he is getting from me is my contempt."
Scott was next to voice his opinion. "Dad's are great. I got him a set of monogrammed golf balls."
All of Scott's friends stared at him. It was well known he was an orphan. Rogue finally said something. "Scott isn't your father dead?"
He answered. "Yes. I was talking about the Professor. He was always a father figure to me."
Remy snorted at this. "Oh well then…monogrammed golf balls. That's a practical gift. The man can't even stand let alone play golf. I'm with Rogue and the Iceman. Father's suck. If my dad was around for the occasion all I would give him is the finger."
Tabby spoke up at this. "Hey Remy I got my dad the same thing. The problem is I have to wait for him to get out of prison to give it to him. Oh well I guess his cell mate will just have to console him." She smiled evilly.
"You guys are so disrespectful. If I had you for children I'd be a bad father as too." Kitty said. The bickering soon heated into a full on screaming match which left X-23 to back slowly out of the room.
'Screw it,' she thought. 'If Wolverine even asks I'll just tell him I forgot.'
X didn't know it at the time, but over the years that excuse would be used often and to great effect.
I'm sorry folks. It's my dad's birthday and I thought this would be a good gift. I know it was about Father's Day, but it was a better subject than birthdays. Plus I really hate all these useless holidays.
