A Betrayed Warrior
How Ashfur Saw Death
A Warriors fanfiction story by krin-25miju
It was a dark night in ThunderClan territory. I was prowling about the undergrowth, doing some night hunting. I had a feeling that I was being watched, but I couldn't sense a presence, so I quickly dismissed the thought.
I can't wait until I tell the Clans of the news! I thought deviously, waving my tail in excitement. Squirrelflight will be so shamed, she will probably have to leave the Clan. That will hurt her for sure!
A mouse scampered in front of my paws. I pounced on it, sinking my claws and teeth into its warm flesh. The mouse went limp as I stood over my catch, taking in air in search of more prey.
Of course, there were the usual mice and squirrels skittering about. But there was also something else in the air, something that warned of danger, but it was also… familiar.
Why do I have this feeling that I am being watched? Could it be… are StarClan angry with me? No. I haven't done anything wrong. Or… have I? Wait.
I stopped my trail of thoughts to inhale the scents around me. There was still that one scent, familiar and dangerous. My fear-scent was so great, it almost overpowered the particular scent, warning of danger, yet also welcoming with familiarity. I took it in again, smelling my fear and…
"ThunderClan!" I exclaimed. "And not just any ThunderClan cat. That's…"
A dark shadow plowed into me, interrupting my newfound discovery. Snarling, I looked up into the emerald eyes of…
"Hollyleaf," I spat. "I have no idea what you want, but could you get off of me?"
"No," she snarled in return. "I'm sorry, Ashfur, but I have to do this, for the sake of our reputations."
"What?" The confusion must have shown on my face, yet Hollyleaf didn't answer to that. "What are you talking about?"
With that, she clawed at my face, striking my eye. I hissed and tried to pounce on her, but she quickly dodged my attempt at an attack and pounced on me again, sinking her teeth into my flesh. We rolled around the undergrowth for several heartbeats, yet it felt like moons to me. Hollyleaf managed to bite my neck, and backed it up with some tough scratches.
Several heartbeats passed. I felt the blood rushing out of my neck as I struggled to breathe. Suddenly, Hollyleaf picked me up by the scruff and dropped me into the river. I could see the river run red with my blood, and I was starting to see white spots…
Then, the world became dark as I sank to the bottom of the stream.
