The rain started off gentle, covering the islands in an drizzle. But the night got later the storm grew closer thunder and lightning and slicing rain. Riku stood outside, the rain drenching him. He let his head turn up towards the sky, the drops were his tears. He stared at the sky and watched the sky fight, grey and purple clouds against the rich navy sky. It reminded him the the City that never was. The atmoshere was almost the same, but he was a changed guy. The darkness was there deep in his heart but he didnt fear it. He had settled slowly back to his old life but with a new respect for every sunrise and sunset. Sora, Kairi and him still sat and watched the sun set in the sky. And sometimes they would even fall asleep on the beach under the stars.
Riku didnt flinch when the lightning lit up the sky. He liked how it lit up eveything for a split second before the darkness closed around him again. It was comforting. A crack of thunder rumbled in his chest. He was shivering but ignored it. He didnt want to go inside. He let his mind wander thoughts rumbling in his head. A wave of dark memories rushed over but he pushed them back for sweeter ones. The first day home. His birthday complete with a surprise party at dusk. He smiled as he saw Sora and Kairi holding the small cake...the memories were happy and sweet. He wasnt alone. He never was but it took a journey to realize just how lucky he was. He opened his eyes to the sky lit up by a bolt of lightning. He should go inside but something kept him where he was. The rain was somehow even heavier now and pounded against his skin. Needles thats what it reminded him of. He stood there head down the rain causing his hair to stick to his face.
"Riku? What are you doing out here?" The voice was concerned. Riku whipped his head towards the voice and saw Sora, hood covering his head but his blue eyes were wide at the sight of him. "Riku Are you okay?" He jogged over to him and placed his hand on his shoulder, looking him in the eye. Yeah i'm fine...Riku smiled weakly and shook out his hair making Sora laugh. "Let's go! You need to dry off before you get a cold." Riku followed him, the rain suddenly stopped. "Hey, that's strange the rain finally stopped. Sora said. I was watching it from my window, it was pouring buckets." They got to Sora's house and Riku sat at one of the wooden Kitchen chairs. Sora returned from the linen closet and threw Riku a towel before looking back out at the dark sky. "What were you doing outside anyways?" Sora looked at him with the question in his eyes." I dont remember. I just was standing outside." He finished drying his hair and sighed. "Well thanks Sora...I'll see you in the morning." With that Riku walked out into the heavy damp air and walked down the street to his house. He sneaked in and went to bed. He lie in bed until he fell asleep. The bright full moon flooded his room with silver light...lighting up his desk...A note was scribbled in pen.
Even the rain cant wash away my past but maybe it'll numb the feelings
