She stood on Mount Olympus and watched her friends playing down in the mortal realm. They were so happy as they kissed and frolicked and even, for certain ones, when they fought their enemies for they were with those She had given them. She was glad for their happiness and smiled as She watched them, but despite all the joy She had brought, Aphrodite was still lonely.
When, She wondered, would Her time come? When would She get to experience happiness in all the things She did, both the enormously important task of pairing soul mates together and the simple, mundane things of life with which even a Goddess must contend? When would She find Her one?
She was married to Hephaestus. She had had Ares many times. Yet neither was Her one and only, Aphrodite knew. Hephaestus, though He tried not to be, was a bore, and Ares had made Her cry far too many times. Where was Her soul mate?
As the Goddess of Love pined, She knew Her Son was near, but She did not know that He was not watching the loving couples below as She was. Instead, He had set His sights on His latest target and was even more determined to bring happiness for this individual than He was in all the couplings He created. He strung His bow and let it fire as His Mother sighed. "Soon, Mother," Cupid whispered, and indeed it was very soon thereafter that His Mother found Her one.
The End
