Garnet eyes watched the slow stream of moments pass by unblinking. The pictures moved and changed but the eyes never strayed and no sound was heard. For what those eyes were watching were the time streams. The endless array of pasts, presents, and futures that could be.
Sailor Pluto watched the streams as she always did, wary of disturbances and changes, however her eyes always drifted to her favourite one. You see there is a countless number time streams for with every decision that's made or chance that's taken the future could change. For better or worse.
And there were so many futures that were the latter. So many futures that were dark and dreary, with no hope and sometimes no life. A future where a young boy named Mamoru Chiba was killed in a car crash with his parents. Futures where Mamoru Chiba and Usagi Tsukino never meet. Futures where evil forces never threaten the Earth and all Pluto's comrades live ordinary lives, not truly happy. A world where Beryl controls the Senshi and Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask are aided by the Shitennou. Another where Queen Beryl and a brainwashed Prince Endymion ruled the universe. A future where an evil Prince Endymion terrorized the world backed by the Shitennou and Senshi and fought by a lone Sailor Moon. One where an evil Prince Endymion and Princess Serenity slowly kill the world together. Diamond taking over Crystal Tokyo… Sailor Moon killed in battle… Tuxedo Mask killed in battle… Mistress 9 awakening before the Senshi are ready… Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune never awakening… Several timelines where Earth doesn't exist at all because it was blasted away by Beryl, Metallia, Black Lady, Death Phantom, Mistress 9, Pharaoh 90, Nehelenia, or Galaxia.
The odds were always stacked against them and there were so many opportunities for it all to go wrong. Which was why the one timeline that sat right in the centre was so precious and the favourite of the Guardian of Time. Because in this timeline, through all the hurt and laughter, everyone survives the battles, the day is always saved, and all the right decisions are made that eventually lead to a shining crystal city full of peace, laughter, and joy, and her King and Queen live happily with their friends, children, nieces, and nephews, and all live full, long lives. It was everything they fought for through thousands of years.
Pluto smiled gently as she gazed at it again. For somehow, out of the billions of timelines, this one, by far the happiest one, was the one that time was set to follow. Some thought it was destiny. Others thought that it was Pluto herself that made it happen. But Pluto knew the truth. It was pure, dumb luck.
