Prelude

"Nah ... get away" ... ... "I said ... yo ... urh ..." ... ... "No ... don't ... NO!" thud

"Huh? What the...?" Reno muttered sleepily, as he fund himself lying on the floor next to his bed, sheets spread all across the floor. "Damn, that hurt. Stupid nightmares again."

He slowly got up, stretched and yawned. Putting the sheets first back where they belong, he

went towards the bedroom window, to let in some fresh air. It was spring outside and the morning air smelled just amazing.

Taking a deep breath, he made his way towards the bathroom, only to trip over a pillow, which was still lying on the floor.

With another thudding sound he found himself face-first on the floor again. "Now that's gonna be a great day."

After taking a long, hot shower, he went back to the bedroom and took his clothes out of the closet. A blue suit, a white shirt, a pair of black socks and black shoes. "Same things everyday ... stupid dress code." he thought.

Fully clothed, he snatched his keys, cell phone and the unextended EMR from the little table next to the door and pocketed them.

Opening the front door, he took a final glance into the mirror hanging behind the little table. "See ya, sexy boy!"

Turning down the volume of the radio, he entered the huge parking lot next to the ShinRa-Building. Looking for his personal parking, he found it blocked by another car.

"Hey, why the hell is that moron parkin' there? That's mine! Can't he read the stupid sign? It says R-E-N-O ... damn it."

Taking a free one several 100 feet away from the entrance, he got out of his car and slammed
the door shut. After letting out a long sigh, he made his way towards the huge building.

At the same time, up in the 67th floor, a middle-aged man wrapped in a white lab coat entered a large, rectangular room, filled with small cages. Peeking inside some of them, he smiled to himself and made his way to the door at the opposite side.

After pressing various numbers on the panel next to the door, it slowly opened with a hissing sound.

Stepping into the dark room beyond, he waited a moment until the door closed behind him. Touching a little, illuminated button next to the door, the room was eventually lit in a very dim red light, just enough to barely make out the surroundings.

Taking a few steps forward, a huge cage with massive metal bars came into view. He stopped next to a little monitor, which displayed a slow, but regular heartbeat and let out silent beeps.

Examining it closely, he nodded to himself and took a closer look at the cage.
Not able to see anything because of the lack of proper light, he stepped a little closer, but stopped instantly, when a dark growl was audible from inside it.

After a little moment, the form of something, what originally could have been a wolf, slowly walked into view.
The man eyed the creature carefully. It's skin was mostly torn away, revealing bare flesh and muscles, which could be seen moving, as it walked along the cages bars. Turning it's head towards the man, it let out a low growl again, showing a set of rotten fangs.

The man took a notepad, which was hanging besides the monitor and wrote something in a nearly indecipherable handwriting -

'Subject S5 VII.12' Mako treatment started, slight mutations visible. Subject stable.

After that, he looked into the creatures eyes

"We're making progress, aren't we?"

Well … my first fanfic. I just begun writing it and duh … hard to get all the ideas onto paper the way I want it. Especially when you want to write it in a different language. Yeah, well, I'm actually german, but german sucks, so I'll try to write it in english xP
